I hear a lot of talk about how the 90's was so much better in many respects. As someone who wasn't alive for the majority of the 90's, in what ways do you think the 90's was better than present day?

Lower gas prices which in turn had lower food and housing costs.

Besides that is was pre-inflation.. The 90s were great in a number of ways. Many of my favorite things about the 90s pertain to the aesthetics. Everybody wore these loud outfits with clashing colors or gawdy decorations... I have a lot of pictures from my younger days of myself and family members, and looking at them now, the clothes that were in at the time were nuts. They were so bizarrely unfashionable.. And that's what made them great.

Then there is all the media.. The 90s were stacked with great sitcoms, TV dramas and movies... Too many to even list.

I think that anyone who remembers the 90s would also agree that perhaps the greatest thing about them was the general atmosphere of "anything goes". People weren't so politically correct and that translated to all facets of culture. And not only that, but people made an effort to say no to conformity, censorship and monotony. That's why we can look back at musicians from Nirvana to Tupac and say they really had a huge cultural impact. And that's why we all loved wrestling, too.. Because people were less easily offended and more compelled to disobey authority and define they're own way of life, that kind of cut throat approach to programming was able to thrive.

We still have musicians, writers, directors and public figures who are able to deviate from the norm but the context isn't the same and they receive very little exposure from media and little recognition from society. I think now people in general just don't feel the same freeness they did back then. My dad talks about it all the time, there's just an added level of tension and resentment out there nowadays. I may have only lived for eight years in the 90s but I remember them being so much better for everybody I know.

Judging by some of the BOTS entries, the 90's had some pretty killer music.

Yeah I mean for me i think people are just hung up on the 90's. Best thing about it really, is that it was pre-recession. Theres always been great music, art, and culture. It will continue to be that way (i hope). If it weren't for the events on September 11th, and if it weren't for the war on "terror" we might have been looking at the 2000's differently. I actually like culture and stuff right now. Besides our shit war effort, and the disaster we've created overseas, I'm enjoying the 2010's. Despite what people may think, music is booming right now. Even mainstream music is better than it was 5-6 years ago. Theres great music all around really, just gotta dig for it. I think our rapid advances in technology are proof that we can achieve practically anything at this point. Although we have a lot of issues boiling, (The Middle East, Gaza, Global Warming, Equal Rights, amongst many other things) thats how its always been. I put my faith in my generation, I think we can make great things happen and in the longrun capsize on the decades and generations before us.

I feel the 90''s has the feel to it that it was the best, even from people who didn't experience that.

People who have never seen Jordan play will say he's the best of all time, they will say Tupac is the greatest rapper of all time.

90's Rap was supposedly amazing (I haven't listened to it that often apart from Wu-Tang).

the Simpsons were better in the 1990s. Music all around was better. It wasn't cool to be a pussy like it is today. The self esteem era is making our country week. Wrestling was better too.

Plus my dad was still alive...

Nas, Wu, Doom, and B.I.G. is really all you need

Add in some Fugees with that, and even early Puff Daddy stuff was good IMO.

EC pretty much nailed it with the 90's. It was definitely a great time to be alive looking back now, granted I was a child through most of it and didn't know much about anything but looking back I see how awesome it really was. Great TV shows, music, movies, and video games.

At the same time though I'm content with this era despite not being familiar with some things in it. I tend to look on the bright side of things rather than the negative even though I've dealt with some rough times during this era.

Halloween H20 was the last good Halloween film (yeah, I'm one of the three fans of H20. Quiet ;) )
Super Nintendo is my all-time favorite video game console
The Rock was the last time Michael Bay did a good film
