I just had an interesting experience with a habanero chilli. I use chillies in my cooking all the time and so I have four different chilli plants at home but this was the first haberno I had ever grown. It looked incredible, great size and shape and a bold orange colour. Before I use any chilli in my cooking I like to try a bit raw just to see how much I should use in a certain dish. I know that these chillies are hot (around 300,000 on the Scoville Scale) and so I cut off a small piece to try. I put it in my mouth and I wait for the chilli explosion but I get nothing. I then cut off a much bigger piece and try it but still nothing, it just tastes like capsicum. I was disappointed since I wanted some true heat to add to certain dishes.

Since I love raw capsicum anyway I decided to eat the rest of the chilli. I take a good bite removing half the chilli and after a couple of chews it hits me and holy crap it was hot. For some reason part of the chilli had no heat whatsoever but the rest of the chilli was insanely hot. Easily the hottesst chilli I have ever eaten. Fun ten minutes after that waiting for my mouth to cool down with the help of a bit of yoghurt can still feel the slight chilli tingle on my lips now. Now that I know they are so hot I will use them with caution but it was a fun although slightly crazy experience.

Does anyone else like spicy food here? How hot do you like it? Also does anyone else grow their own chillies?

I love spicy food such as Indian, I usually get the hottest curry possible.

Other spicy food goes to a medium for me, I tried Thai Chilli last week, one freakin' seed of that burns your mouth.

Mum's currently growing some chilli/capsicum mix in the backyard and it tastes downright disgusting.

Troy - You tried Thai Chilli?

Yeah I have tried the Thai Chillies and they are hot as well.

I went out to a Chinese Restaurant I like the other month and I ordered this Szechuan Chicken dish I like. Problem was they changed the menu and they had two different options on the menu one normal and one hot. I ordered hot and it was the wrong one. Had piles of dried chillies on it and the chicken was small pieces on the bone which were a pain to eat with chopsticks. So damn hot but I couldn't be bothered asking for the other dish so I ate it.

Other than the habanero plant I have a Hot Carrot chilli plant, Bird's Eye Chilli and a regular Cayenne Chilli. Plus I have a few normal capsicum plants (Red, Yellow, Orange and Purple which have turned Red) that have grown pretty well this year.

Holy shit dude... I am terrible with this stuff and my intestines already hate me. I pour Tabasco sauce on shit that NO ONE does, shit I probably shouldn't. When I eat Mexican food, which is highly frequent, it's often drowned in hot sauce. I even pour the hot sauce into the nacho cheese and mix it. I'm pretty demanding with my hot sauce too. This dude at my work made fajitas out on a grill one day and brought his own "home made hot sauce". I'm thinking, "well this guy is from the homeland of spicy shit, so this should be awesome" and it didn't even phase me. I called him a sorry excuse for a Mexican, and even though we laughed about it because I was joking, not gonna lie, I was halfway serious.

I do a similar thing where I put chillies on everything mainly because I have a bag of them in the freezer and a container of dried ones to use up. I put them in all the usual stuff like curries and stirfries but I put them in pasta, pizza, stews, pretty much anything.

I'm pretty sure only UK people will understand the extent of this but it's how I judge it. I can eat X-Hot Nandos.... but i enjoy Hot Nandos more.

I like spicy food and hot things like buffalo wings that you can get from costco and spicy chicken from KFC, Nandos, etc. It's the best. Never really eat chilli though.

What would happen if you were to eat Pure Capsaicin? Isn't that like 15,000,000 on the Scoville Scale?

If it isn't too spicy, I will eat it. I went to an Indian restaurant once that solely had VERY SPICY FOOD. Every time I would take a bite, my stomach and mouth would burn which I did not enjoy. I like medium-spicy but I will not eat anything that is too spicy.

I don't prefer spicy or hot foods if it boils down to it I avoid Latino restaurants at all cost, and prefer bbq chicken over buffalo.

I don't particularly like spicy food at all unless its spicy chicken, It makes my mouth feel weird and I just generally dislike the taste.

Spicy Chicken Wings are the best, I have tried some Flamethrower Wings in Saskatchewan and they were REALLY spicy but amazing.
