Linda McMahon, former president and CEO of WWE, failed in her bid for a Senate seat in Connecticut, losing to Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy on Tuesday. This follows her 2010 loss to Richard Blumenthal in the race for the state's other seat in the Senate.

The total cost of losing two elections has ranged from $90 to $97 million, according to estimates. McMahon spent $50 million of her personal fortune in her failed 2010 campaign, and is believed to have spent $40 to $47 million the second time around. Between both campaigns, McMahon has now spent a cumulative total of over $90 million in pursuit of federal office. That is more than any other American in history.

WWE Hall of Famer "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, who worked under the employ of McMahon, criticized her exorbitant spending on two failed Senate campaigns in a series of Twitter messages Wednesday. After asking his followers whether McMahon won her race, he wrote, "Can spend 90 million on a losing election but won't give the people that earned that money for them medical or retirement help of any kind!"

Piper then re-tweeted a message comparing her failed Senate campaigns to another McMahon family outside-the-ring venture that went bust; the World Bodybuilding Federation: "It's like the WBF all over again; money spent on alternate endeavors earned from the blood & sweat of the boys."

Continuing to stick up for "the boys," while also corroborating a rumor that mid-level WWE talent had to cover their hotel and travel expenses during WrestleMania XXVIII week in Miami, Florida despite the sports-entertainment organization generating a record-breaking $102.7 million in economic impact for Miami-Dade County, he also re-tweeted, "They can spend 90 mill on elections but still make midcarders pay their and their family own way for wrestlemania. crazy."

Well probably be at least a little while before we see him again. In good news she has stated she will not run again.

I guess those six figures you were earning back in the 80's and early 90's wasn't enough, huh Hot Rod? No, Linda and Vince should have payed you more even though you boozed and drugged your way through the 80's and 90's and now you're too old, fat and stupid to wrestle. You blew your retirement and medical on drugs, booze and bullshit, Hot Dog!

Ted DiBiase, Ultimate Warrior, Mike Rotundo, and a whole bunch of others had the sense to save, you didn't, especially when you were making fat stacks in WWF and WCW.

I will agree that it is absolutely insane to spend almost $100 million to try and win a Senate seat. Why waste that kind of money wanting to be in government? But still, it's her money, and if she's earned it and made the choices to make the money, then she should be able to waste it how she wants. That's the privilege of wealth, I guess.

It was like after fairing support that the he thought undercard guys deserved to have all their families paid for coming to shows. That is a shit load of money that WWE isn't invested in and shouldn't be.

I wouldn't openly complain about a Husband spending for his Wife. That is there deal.

Their money, they could do whatever they want with it.

Also, wrestlers are private contractors, personal responsibility folks. Top guys get limos as perks. Midcarders get shit, because they are midcarders.

Hotrod should leave politicks and unions alone, not his area of expertise, oh!!!! And maybe he should've joined Jesse Ventura in getting a union going instead of just taking the money for himself. Hypocrite much?

Stupid comment by him, they earnt the money so they can waste it how they want. Plus if those midcarders hate the pay so much there is nothing stopping them from quitting and finding a job that will pay them more money. No one is forcing them to work for WWE, they chose to go there because they know that if they make it to the top the rewards will be huge.

Am I missing something or was Piper not a big draw in WWF? You are talking that it was money wasted. He gave them a good service at least during the 80s and early 90s, he was one of their biggest draws and had some classic matches and feuds. And at least for its first three years I thought his WCW run was pretty good too.

I don't think it is his place to say what he did, but its freedom of speech at the end of the day and I agree with pretty much all of what he said.

I acknowledge he was a huge draw in the WWF. My point was that he (and a whole bunch of the 1980's stars) blew all their medical and retirement on drugs, booze and bullshit. The WWF didn't waste money on him, no, not at all. But he didn't save when he could have.

To be fair though, that was a lot of money spent to not get a seat.

It is a ridiculous amount to spend on two failed campaigns but if they want to waste it they can. Plus they still have a few hundred million in the bank so missing out on the $90 million probably won't hurt them in the end.

Yeah but come on, Obama and Romney didn't spend nearly that much. If she was attempting to be president I'd understand. It could have helped her too by getting the WWE Universe involved.

I'm not exactly sure, but I think there's laws against trying to get votes from your own company (even though Linda isn't the CEO of WWE anymore, it's a conflict of interest bc of Vince) or your husband's company. Might be construed as solicitation or something else legal..

Then why is it okay for her opponents to use her husband's company against her? If she isn't part of the company anymore it shouldn't be allowed.
