Hulk Hogan discussed how unnecessary surgeries from the Laser Spine Institute prevented a career-ending match with John Cena during an interview with Fighting Spirit Magazine.

“It was part of a 25-year deal with WWE. I was filming Hogan Knows Best, and Vince McMahon and I started negotiating. It was at a time when I was coming back for the one-off shows with Shawn (Michaels) and Randy (Orton).

But it’s wrong about Cena – that was just part of the whole thing where I would show up once in a while and wrestle. It was one of those times where Vince and I were in love one day, and fighting the next. We were negotiating a 25-year deal, and part of it was me wrestling Cena in Orlando at Wrestlemania. I called Vince and said, ‘I’m good to go’. I’d just had my first back surgery, and everything was supposed to be perfect, but just before I was due on TV, my back went. I was scared to call Vince, but when I did, I was like, ‘Dude, my back has gone out again’. After more surgeries, instead of a morphine pump to ease the pain, they inserted a battery (into my back) that was made by NASA for the space shuttle, and lasts forever.â€

I'm not buying the 25 year deal bit at all. If he had that kind of offer why would he ever go elsewhere?

If anyone actually watched the Hogan Kows Best reality show, it does have a segment where Vince is negotiating with Hogan on a 25 year contract, milking Hulkamania even after death, like a wrestlings 2Pac.

Co-signed, I've seen it too so Hogan isn't lying there.

Orlando was Mania 24, right? Cena/Trips/Orton wasn't that good, would of preferred Hulk vs Cena to be fair.

Not gonna lie, Hogan v. Cena at Mania 24 would have been epic and that would have instantly made it the best Mania in recent memory. Between that match and Flair/Michaels, Taker/Edge, and Orton/Triple H... wow. "Would could have been" indeed.

Yeah he isn't lying about this as I remember the Hogan Knows Best ep as well when they covered that. 25 year deal is pretty crazy though at that stage of his life. Cena/Hogan would have been big obviously but I'm not exactly feeling like I missed out on anything since the actual feud would have probably bored me and the match itself would have probably blew.

So i'm guessing that NASA battery thingy that lasts forever didn't work given he's had numerous (I think) surgeries since?

Hogan would have pooped his pants in the middle of the ring like Sid if he had to wrestle another Mania.

The 25 year deal was real, good to see I am not the only one that watched Hogan Knows Best back in the day. It was mainly a deal for merchandise though so that they could keep promoting Hulkamania and making money from that for the next couple of decades even if Hogan couldn't wrestle. Would have been a massive PPV if Hogan faced Cena to go along with Mayweather appearing on the show, would have been even bigger than it already was.

I wonder how much Vince was offering for that 25 year deal. I mean if Hogan were smart(lulz) he would have bartered with him. Especially since with WWE, you can't really do much of anything else.

I don't think that the base payment would have been ridiculously huge but he would have received a big cut of merchandise sales and large appearance fee payments. The sticking point in my mind would have been about the percentage cut and who retains the rights to the Hulkamania brand.

To be fair consider the source. Not saying it isn't true, but is it not possibly that Hogan made it up just to massage his own ego? Its the sort of thing pro wrestlers do all the time and 25 years does sound a bit far fetched.
