I believe quite a few people here work out so I thought it would be worth creating a fitness thread.

Anything related to fitness, questions, workouts etc. can be posted here.

I will start of by posting a question. I have started going jogging recently and I want to do it everyday but I find it quite boring even when listening to music. Is there anything to make it fun as I often find myself skipping days.

Re: Fitness thread

I'm very serious about my fitness. Being a fighter I have to be, strength and conditioning is a big part of what we do. I'm pretty sure I started a topic about this a while back, but it must have went stale. Plus I kinda change up my exercise a bit.On Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays - I'll do weights in the morning, than come back to the gym and do a strength and conditioning exercise, followed by various MMA techniques (mostly striking though, I have to admit, I can't stand grappling). Tuesday I usually do TRX training and 7 rounds of Bas Rutten's muay thai striking on a heavy bag.

As far as diet goes - I wake up and make myself an omlette with 3 eggs, spinach, broccoli and jalapenos. The jalapenos help with digestion while I drink a whey smoothie which consists of one scoop of whey with a bananas, and a 1/2 cup of assorted fruit (strawberries, cherries, blackberries, blueberries) and some oatmeal... if you eat complex carbs, it's best to eat them in the morning. Than throughout the day all I eat are assorted vegetables with fish because it's the leanest of any kind of meats out there. For snacks I usually eat a granola bar in the morning, assorted veggies in lunch and dinner, than a protein shake after all my workouts. You really don't need supplements, but they're good to have.

As far as your boredom goes, try working out with a buddy. Just when you get bored, look over at him pushing himself and you'll follow suit.

Thanks for your input, what do you usually drink throughout the day?

Re: Fitness thread

Water and green tea.

If you're trying to stay lean, water is the best way because it will flush the water out of your system. And green tea is an estrogen killer. Estrogen btw are female sex hormones that cause you to gain fat, become moody, get tits, etc.

Actually I do use almond milk for my morning smoothie.

Now you're in my dojo.

Make goals for yourself. Challenge yourself to jog further or faster than the day before, mix up your surroundings so it's not the same route everytime, as Alex said run with a buddy, try and stray away from main roads as they're dull as hell at times.

I'm lucky, I've got a beach, woods, hills and parks all within good distance of my house.

Benson Henderson has a quote very much related to what LB said.

It's easier said than done though.

Re: Fitness thread

To answer your question, if you are becoming bored with jogging, then you must change things up. You are probably doing the same routine. route, and pace (I apologize if I'm incorrect), so your body is just going to get used to it and your mind is going to get bored.

There are several ways you can do this. My personal favorite is the 30:60 or 60:120. This is where you sprint for 30 seconds and then jog (which is your recovery) for 60 seconds. If you are a beginner, I would work to get in shape enough to be able to repeat this six to eight times at 30:60 before moving onto the 60:120 style. Don't do this every day though. This should only be done once or twice a week. This increases your stamina and run time.

You can do also do hill runs and add burpees and other body weight movements into the mix to get your heart rate up. What we like to do here is pick the biggest hill in the complex. At the bottom we will pick an exercise to complete and a number of reps, sprint up the hill, and perform an exercise at the top of the hill before sprinting back down. This is usually used to finish off a training session though, but you can make an entire session out of this if you like.

Also, adding resistance such as a back pack with weights or books, or a weighted vest can spice up a jog.

I drink a lot of water through out the day. Yeah, I'm one of those Douche Bags who carries a large water jug with him. However, I also do drink a sugar filled energy drink a day (sometimes two), which is my vice. I love the Berry flavored Full Throttle energy drinks and the Rooster Boosters. I stay away from fast food (or at least try too) because of the amount of calories. I really feel like shit after eating it sometimes. If I do go to a drive through, I make sure I know ahead of time the calorie count of what I am going to be eating. It has taken me years to fix my eating habits that I had as a child, and I get extremely pissed when I screw up my diet.

Re: Fitness thread

Might I also add before you jog, workout, or do anything with a high amount of intensity to stretch before and especially after. Usually after workouts I end up doing a little bit of yoga to help improve my flexibility. It'll prevent you from stiffening up in exercises before you do so, and for afterwards it helps reduce the buildup of lactic acid as well.

However, I also do drink a sugar filled energy drink a day (sometimes two), which is my vice. I love the Berry flavored Full Throttle energy drinks and the Rooster Boosters..

Oh man, I used to have a huge craving for energy drinks but unfortunately for me they became an addiction. Plus they have a tremendous amount of caffine which contributes to my already very hefty anxiety.

On a cheat day though... and when I drink, Amp Energy with Vodka and lime is the way to go for me.

Honestly once you get used to it it becomes routine. Just stick with it and the hassle disappears in no time. Plus, water is cheaper than every other drink so think with your wallet too.

Re: Fitness thread

Yeah dude, I only drink water and milk really (aside from protein shakes). I used to drink soda daily until it made me sick so I really had to change things up. It's been a few years now and I'm never looking back. I've cut out / replaced a lot of stuff so I'm eating really well right now, I've got a workout routine that's working for me, and I've honestly never felt better. Fitness will really just make you enjoy life more.
