I've seen it, but that still doesn't mean that it wasn't what you were implicitly stating. You coulda just compared Kofi to a random jobber for a MUCH better and clear emphasis.

Excuse me while I get this thread back on topic :p

The writers obviously realized the Jamaican Kofi character was one dimensional and it had no future. To try and alleviate the problem, they just made him an African guy so he can cut normal promos and drop the accent. Sometimes things like this happen in wrestling, and the writers just can't figure out an angle to justify the change, so they just do it and hope the viewers don't care (Russo's done this his entire career).

So, in short, I guess it doesn't really matter that they just changed him from a Jamaican to an African, because the creative team probably had no idea how to justify it on TV. As far as Kofi is concerned, I have no problem with him as a depth midcard babyface but I see him going no higher than that. Although he got over in his feud with Orton, I just don't see the potential other people do. He'll replace Shelton in the "midcarder for life" role.

So it's alright for them to just change something like that because "they had no idea how to justify it on tv?" Aren't you the same guy that's been going on about Joe being kidnapped? That's the point of creative. BE CREATIVE. They're a team. That's why it's more than one person. To say that they had no idea how to change him just means it's lazy booking.

I would have been more satisfied with him coming out and saying he was from Ghana and that WWE stereotypes African-Americans.

Samoa Joe's kidnapping was completely different. It was an unnecessary angle, they could have just had Joe "get injured" and leave TV for a few weeks. But instead they decided to have him get kidnapped by ninjas, and Russo probably said "meh, we'll justify it later" and naturally, he never did.

In Kofi's case, he pretty much HAD to change to a normal African gimmick because the Jamaican stuff was going nowhere. The accent was gimmicky, everyone knew he wasn't Jamaican anyways, and he wasn't going to be taken seriously as a main eventer with that character. At the time of the change, Kofi was feuding with Orton, in a feud that important they obviously want to make Kingston look as serious and as credible as possible.

It not completely different. Joe went through a gimmic change. Kofi went through a gimmic change. How is that different? It's just laziness. They're on the creative team for a reason. They're the big dogs. They're in WWE. I'd think that them being the biggest pro-wrestling company in the states would at least know how to change someone's gimmic.

Yes Kofi needed a change. His jamacan act was going no where. His build up the past summer had me sold on him. I'm hoping that his move to SD will mean that he's moving back up the card. I can honestly see him being a big player on SD. He beat the entire Raw mid card multiple times, had many title defenses, and looked good in the process. After some upper mid card feuds on SD, it's main event time.

Kofi > Truth.

Kofi had potential last year, but it appears to have majorly worn off. I do find the Jamaican thing annoying. They should have stopped the entire thing when he stopped speaking like that. Hell, even HHH spoke about it on Raw!
