Ahh man, it's hard to not take his past accomplishments into consideration.
Wrestling Observer
Best Technical Wrestler (2005-2011)
Match of the Year (2007) vs. Takeshi Morishima on August 25
Most Outstanding Wrestler (2006–2010)
Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Decade (2000–2009)

Misawa was the best wrestler according to awards in the 80s,his dead ass isn't the BITW today lol, just an imo but using his distant history as a major factor in the justification shows he isn't on current performances.

Like I said, it's hard to say who the best in the world is because it's all opinon and preference. The proof is in the pudding though. He has the accolades to be in serious consideration and at least in everyone's top 5.

2011 isn't so far gone. Is it? I don't know. I'm just throwing it out there.

Imo the best in the world has to be from either the current or previous year, it's only fair to call them the best currently if they're judged on their most recent work.

Well 2012 just ended so we will just have to wait for that new award to get announced. If anything, he would be one year removed from it, and the question of the thread was if he has done anything to be considered. I've simply provided things he has done to be at least considered. I think i've accomplished and established a solid foundation for debate, which is all I can really do.

The question isn't if he's considered its if he can be judged as it solely on his WWE work, with no disrespect KevinLockard23 has provided the most comprehensive answer so far as someone without the ROH prejudice (its impossible for either us to remove it imo, we both seemed to have followed him threw many years. I'm trying to remain neutral throughout but am likely failing miserably) I'd like to have another person with little or none of that prejudice again to see if there is a correlation.

@Leo C do you class Bryan as the best, you seem to not follow ROH / seen most of his work from there. I understand the term is completely subjective but it's easy for us to sit here and name him the best based upon past accolades.

Well the question is if we think, if we want to split hairs here, that's what it was. So, as someone who has followed him, it's easy for me to have more knowledge about him. Not only that but i've seen him wrestle in Akron, so yeah i'm partial. If my answer wasn't good enough based soley on the fact that i've known him longer, well that's okay and i see where you're coming from.

Hey the answer was good but you're bringing up awards he won previously, does winning MOTY in 07 justify him as the 2013 BITW ? IMO it doesn't say ROH never existed, would you class Daniel as the best from his WWE debut on NXT to the present day, paying special focus towards his quality in 2012(the most recent year and thus most relevant data, allowing for the counting of 2013 if you wish even though the year is incredibly young)

Ok, now this has gotten interesting. I know the OP had, Daniels' work since joining wwe but I kind of marked out and over looked it. Without that knowledge of pre-wwe.... boy.... I would say he was inolved in the two best wwe matches of 2012, one at TLC, and the other being the Title match against Punk. I'm going to go on to say that I hate his gimmick and he could be booked better. So, based just on his WWE work, it's really hard to say BITW.

I agree completely that's why I made this thread lol, he's been very good but I'm not sure if he's on that elite level when looking at it solely in the E.

And even with those you could credit Punk, Rollins and Ambrose respectively. All three guys (especially the first two) are fantastic workers and could have a decent match with most guys. On the contrary, the fact he dragged Big Show and Henry to a decent match at RR and Sheamus to a great one at ER are reasons you could give for him still being.

At the moment though I'd say my favourite worker is Aries. In the last few months I've watched TNA he's been consistently awesome.

After all that, we've come to an agreement:smug: Good luck in finding more people though to debate this with. It's a really good topic.

To be honest, I was going off the top of my head. Being involved in those two matches was the first thing that came to my mind. So you helped push my point more, which is great. I wish i would have mentioned that as well.

I feel like this is all opinoin and no one can be wrong.

Yeah I know I was just trying to think of more examples, can't really think of much others though, he's had lots of decent stuff but that's about it really.

I'm going to sound like a mark. I blame it on his silly Gimmick. I feel like he's been given really dumb angles and most of the time, turns them into pure entertainment. His in-ring abilities are always technically sound. We actually should start up a best in the world thread and seriously debate it. That'd be fun stuff.
