In the latest edition of the
Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided an update on NXT's schedule for this summer.
Meltzer reported that the next NXT special events after Battleground are expected to take place on Tuesday, July 4 and Saturday, August 12. The July 4 event would be NXT Great American Bash, a special episode of NXT television. The August 12 show would be a streaming special on Peacock.
Meltzer added that neither show is official, but both have been talked about by WWE.
After 5/28, the next NXT major shows are expected to be a Great American Bash special on 7/4, which would be a Tuesday TV show, and an 8/12 Saturday night Peacock special. Neither is official as the NXT big show calendar according to those in WWE lists no big events after 5/28 as being official but both have been talked about. July 4th is generally the hardest day of the year with the possible exception of Christmas Eve to draw on television. So the choices are to do a normal show and throw in the towel or to do something special. Wrestling does have a history of special holiday shows doing well, but there is a difference between a live event and a television show on nights people want to go out.
PWInsider
reported on the August 12 event earlier this week, noting that a location for the show hasn't been locked in yet.
NXT Battleground is being held in Lowell, Massachusetts on Sunday, May 28 and will stream live on Peacock. The main event will see Carmelo Hayes defend the NXT Championship against Bron Breakker.
