I watch a cool YouTube that believes a good chunk is that latter. No one wants to be pro south since they live there, but also believe their side was pro slavery. What's funny is the only context I ever have northern pride is the context of the civil. Birth of the GOP is the North, and the North ended slavery, and we stopped the Confederates. Any other times and it's just land on a map to me. It just happens to be cold up here. I do love my New England peeps, though, but that's more isolated than the whole North.

Picture this. The government says your business is all of the sudden illegal and you lose a ton of money with no compensation. But let's not look at it logically lets just look at 'slavery is bad they were evil'

If they didn't succeed in the first place, they wouldn't have lost their slaves for a few generations. The original plan was to put laws in place to slow its growth and to eventually let it die on its own.
