Yeah, at that point in time we didn't really think of anything like that. Bombing tropical islands and even in our own deserts, just to test. You also look at stuff like Fukushima and Chernobyl and wonder just how wise it is for us to even use nuclear energy.

It was the only option Truman felt he had to stop a culture that didn't believe in quitting. I mean they literally had suicide divers to win the war. I think the toll and aftermath of that decision is why we haven't and won't see that again.

If anything, the nukes of WW2 should be inspiring as a human collective to never let us get to that point again and do what we can to prevent it. In a world war there really are no winners, just people who lose less than others.

It's amazing to think how far both US and Japan have come as allies after such an event. Meanwhile, you have countries holding age old feuds over such minor things.

Splitting the atom was many a scientists worst regret in life.

If you think about Japan and us are probably the thickest of thieves. Think about how much of our culture we export and how much of their we import? I'd say way more than any of our "allies."

Such a brilliant discovery and powerful thing, yet so devastating. Pretty unreal. And even that may just be a minor thing compared to some of the powers we yet await to discover of the cosmos. Unfortunately with that, means war may entirely ramp up. One day it may be entire planetary systems being wiped out in the name of war.

Hopefully by the time we get to that level of space travel, we can calm down with the killing eachother bit.

I think at this point any war efforts to find new weapons of a greater magnitude than nukes would just be for MAD and not for application. Unless we saw the rise of another Hitler we literally didn't care.

That in itself is pretty neat when you think of like the ISS. A bunch of different countries, many of which have tensions, all working with a common goal together. I remember seeing a bit by an astronaut saying they don't even think politics or country up there, and when they look down on the earth it's just one planet. If only people as a whole could always work that way, the advancements we could have would be nuts.

I'd hope we stopped giving each off for being part of a different tribe, but it seems hard-coded.

Just the thought of putting aside differences and chillin' in a space station seems so far out.

Yeah, I may not be a big fan of Trump but hes no Hitler and no need for a world war. And I agree, it's pretty primal. But who knows, some primal traits are long gone. Some like our fight or flight still stays with us to this day.

I still have to wonder if Trump actually wanted to be president or it was just marketing, and then kind of happened.

I don't think it was all a ploy and he had no intention of running, but I do buy into the idea that he wanted to run and had ideas for it, but never thought he'd win so he'd just say whatever he wanted politically just so America would listen and then lose to whomever won.
