I think they ended up coming out with a new version that fixed it but I liked the fixed cameras of 1 and 2.

The camera angles were so bad in 3 that they re-released Subsistence to have completely new ones, yeah

The issue is the the fixed angles don't work in a scenario or environment like 3, but they're fucking great for when you need to look around a corner that you can't see with the new camera set-up in Subsistence. Switching between the two is GOAT-tier foresight.

i also didn't realize you weren't solid snake until way later in the game. I thought it was just some trick then i was like wait a minute this is in the past?

The timeline of games are a bit weird but basically: MGS3, Portable Ops, Peace Walker, Ground Zeroes, Phantom Pain, Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, MGS2, MGS4, and Rising: Revengeance

And tbh I kinda heavily recommend playing in chronological order anyways... just sucks the series proper ends with Guns of the Patriots.
