I wouldn't go as far as to say their being paid. But I do think Meltzer goes way overboard with some his praise for them.

he still rates njpw > aew, still rates WWE matches he personally likes high. i dont see how meltzer even promotes AEW he doesnt even have a presence as strong as Fightful at this point and SRS has better sources in AEW than meltzer lol

Maybe, I'm not a big AEW fan, but then I don't really do modern wrestling. But there is still evidence that he goes way over boards. On Cornette's pod there was a episode where they went through Meltzer's awards for the year. It included the Young Bucks book as best wrestling book of the year over for example a book about Andre. I think that tells a story.

The mental gymnastics thing works both ways. There are people that go to the other extremes, where they act like AEW can do no wrong and talk it up like the greatest thing ever. I don't think people should be mocked for their opinion. If you like AEW that's your right. If you don't like it that's just as valid.
