That's a common misconception. It's actually due to light bleaching, either from bright fluorescent lights or sun rays peaking through the window.

I don't know my PS4 has lasted pretty well without any issues. 360 had a really bad lifespan though.

I'd take an SNES over a modern system. Mostly because the games are way too damn complicated these days.

I do agree older consoles were crazy good lifespan wise. They went through so much and still worked like a treat when I had them.

I think it depends what you play, there is still a lot of simple games out there for sure

I definitely overworked mine, I played Halo 3 all day and left it on constantly
