The only reason people hate them is that people are conditioned to believe that people *need* to win. Ties are the great equalizer that punished terrible play from both sides, or in the case of high scoring games, proves that tying is much better than losing.

I think the big idea that people hate ties in the NFL comes from the fact that the MLB, NHL, and NBA do not have ties by their very nature.

People seem to forget that Association Football and Gridiron Football are two sides of the same coin. Both originate from the same sport that was formulated in the early 11th Century.
