i'm still surprised I haven't dropped Sawyer/Saus from my Main Guy slot after 6-7 years of coming up with characters

Practice promos? Never done that, I just post what I got

And even Nova, it took me a while to get her voice under her old character before her change to Princess Nova. By the time I was thinking of the change, I was in a position where I could have kept her as she was before and been pretty strong as a lovable babyface. I think @Project Jonny can attest to that at least.

Definitely do practice promos. It helps. I literally ran a promo school on like two different sites to help people. Massive jump in quality after a while. It even helps to, and I know it'll seem silly, but act out your character. If you act out what you're writing and it feels like shit, it probably is. If it feels great, it's probably great.

Sometimes when I think of a character I work on a mock sign up then often I'd cut a short practice promo to see if I can play their character. Usually those characters I later use or take elements into another character.
