You can absolutely use the writing skills from both of those things to influence how you write for your character and not what you write for it.

Like it took me a while when I first started to be happy with my first character. Then my second character, Ivy Hale, I edited her a few times and had multiple practice promos to get better... (Then I started to like sounding like a girl... egg cracked)
