Most mass shootings and gun related deaths in general are committed with standard issue handguns and not AR-15s. AR-15s are also semi-automatic and firing at the exact same rate as a handgun, which is also semi-automatic. Meaning they both fire one round per squeeze of the trigger. Banning one type of weapon some mass shooters use wouldn't stop what's causing them to commit these awful acts in the first place. You have to find the route of what causes them to want to kill. Because if they want to kill people, they will use a different weapon to do so. AR-15s are also not military weapons. They were designed for civilian use. Military uses fully automatic weapons like M4s and their family of weapons. Which aren't legal in most cases to be owned by a civilian.

Still, AR-15 and similar guns have been used in more of the most fatal shootings. And an AR-15 is simply more fatal than a handgun by virtue of the velocity it fires at.

Most rifles are deadlier because of the caliber of the ammunition. So what you would want to propose is banning all rifles, because there's nothing inherently worse about an AR versus most rifles. They're all semi-automatic with similar calibers.

Anyways, I don't think gun control is just gonna erase all mass shootings automatically. There's definitely levels to the issue. I would just love for something to be done after all this time.

The biggest problem is the rise of attention we give them. Go back before Columbine and we had the same access to guns bought these mass shooting were much less frequent. When these killers are made infamous overnight it gives any wacko with no life a reason to do something heinous to be remembered. People are awful in general and will do anything for attention. I wish we didn't live in the social media age where everyone knows these creeps names within minutes of him committing his awful crimes.
