Apparently windowed .ode + 40 fps cap can help too. It chsnge ur graphics n back once u hit 12gb ram.usage

there's a site that basically tells you the best settings to set the game at to play on steam so I set it to that and it seems to run a little better but still crashes every so often. I'm almost 20 hours in so it hasn't phased me much.
