First of Jay White and Tama Tonga need to have a secret BC Meeting because of this bs with House of Torture fools antics especially from today's Show needs to be addressed. Kick their asses out and bring in actual talent I feel. Taichi vs Cobb was amazing he's always going to give us a good show even in a loss maybe one day he wins a G1 down the line. Oh God YOSHI HASHI vs Goto time why make me suffer to get to Sanada/Okada New Japan why.

Fuck the House of Torture

Turning out the lights via SHO as if that fool knows where the lights are. Tama and Loa should do a Tonya Harding and get some Lead Pipes and take out some Knees if you know what I'm saying they need to respond to that crap.

G1 Climax 31 night 12 (October 8) preview
B Block move to Kochi
20210918_G1_星取表_EN_B_OL.png

The sixth night of B Block action hits Kochi on October 8. Less than a fortnight remains in the tournament of tournaments, with tonight’s action being crucial to the key players as we get on the final stretch.
Watch EVERY G1 Climax event LIVE in English on NJPW World!

Main event: Taichi (2-3) vs Kazuchika Okada (5-0)
Singles record: 2-1 Okada G1 record: 1-0 Okada

G1_20211008_06.jpg

Our main event in Kochi sees Kazuchika Okada looking to maintain his winning streak against Taichi. These two men have been connected since Okada’s very first steps in an NJPW ring; Taichi was Okada’s pre-debut match opponent, and picked up his sole victory over the future Rainmaker that night in 2008. Since then though, Taichi has been outshone by the CHAOS member, and when Taichi transitioned to the heavyweight ranks, Okada was a target of his.
That hunt would culminate in February 2020 in Taichi’s hometown of Sapporo, where even a brutal attack the night before wasn’t enough to keep Okada down. With another victory by referee stoppage due to the Money Clip later that year in the G1, there was reason for the chip on Taichi’s shoulder to grow deeper.

Potentially adding to that chip tonight has been Taichi’s record in the last few matches. After a controversial loss to EVIL, Taichi fell to YOSHI-HASHI and then Jeff Cobb, with frustration mounting by the match. Often dangerous when backed into a corner, the stars may align for Taichi to derail the Rainmaker tonight. Yet is the all powerful momentum of Okada too big to fail?

5th Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi (3-2) vs EVIL (4-1)
Singles record: 3-2 Tanahashi G1 record 2-1 Tanahashi

G1_20211008_05.jpg

Nothing represents the eternal struggle of good versus evil better than Hiroshi Tanahashi versus, well, EVIL, and that’s fans will see in the semi main event of the evening in Kochi. While not one of EVIL’s wins in this campaign have been justly earned, his eight point record nonetheless means he is a distinct threat and very much alive in this tournament, while Tanahashi, two wins off the top pace, is inching closer to the bubble. His loss to Chase Owens this past week in Korakuen Hall definitely rattled the Ace and he’ll be working to get back on track tonight, but can he defuse inevitable interference and underhanded tactics?

4th Match: SANADA (2-3) vs Jeff Cobb (5-0)
G1_20211008_04.jpg

Kazuchika Okada’s isn’t the only streak at risk in Kouchi as Jeff Cobb takes on SANADA tonight. Cold Skull was within a minute of a draw with Okada at Korakuen Hall this week, and within inches of polishing the Rainmaker off entirely. Commenting backstage that he saw some hope of cracking the Okada code in the near future, he nonetheless now has to reset and wrestle Jeff Cobb for the very first time one on one. As the Imperial Unit gets on the harder second half of his campaign, could he be derailed by SANADA tonight? Or is there a chance for him to run the table?

3rd Match: Chase Owens (1-4) vs Hirooki Goto (1-4)
G1_20211008_03.jpg

While Chase Owens had extremely long odds going into this G1, that Hirooki Goto wouldn’t get his first points on the board until match five, with hopes of overall victory effectively evaporated was of some considerable surprise. Almost as big a surprise in fact that Owens’ first career G1 points would come at the expense of Hiroshi Tanahashi. The Texas Champion’s victory over the Ace had the world talking, and justifiably put Owens’ confidence through the roof. Could the Crown Jewel keep that momentum going and defeat Goto in Kochi? Or now that Goto has finally gotten on the board, with YOSHI-HASHI bringing out the aggression and power Goto needed in Korakuen, will the Fierce Warrior prove unstoppable in the second half of the tournament?

2nd Match: YOSHI-HASHI (1-4) vs Tama Tonga (1-4)
Singles record: 1-0 Tonga

G1_20211008_02.jpg

With ten points being the top flight standard in B Block, and three to wrestle after tonight, the chances are both YOSHI-HASHI and Tama Tonga are out of the running in this year’s G1. The loser of this first tournament match of the night will be assuredly out of the running, and in a field where pride is a prized commodity, they will also be closest to bankruptcy. YOSHI-HASHI and Tama Tonga have locked horns in tag team action multiple times, the Guerrillas of Destiny routinely getting the best out of the Headhunter when teaming with the likes of Hirooki Goto and Tomohiro Ishii. Yet this is only their second singles bout, and the first since a Best of the Super Jr. clash over 11 years ago. With much having changed in the interim, both are eager to show the other their worth as singles competitors.

1st Match: Kosei Fujita vs El Desperado
G1_20211008_01.jpg

As Young Lions continue to get tested by the best NJPW junior heavyweights, Kosei Fujita takes on El Desperado in our opener tonight. Fujita and Ryohei Oiwa will likely be competing to see who can outlast the other against their tough opposition; will Fujita be able to survive longer than Oiwa did in Hiroshima 24 hours previous?

Holy shit I think Ishii/O-Khan was O-Khan's best match by far in NJPW. Great day today, ZSJ/Yujiro was a little meh and there were some awkward parts in Ibushi/Tama but overall it was a great day even though I didn't expect a lot

Pretty good G1 Climax today including Ishii getting some momentum late in the tourney with his win in the Main Event over Great O-Khan. I don't see him winning but it's so tight right now in the A Block anything can happen. Kevin Kelly already put the Seeds to a degree Sabre JR losing his last Matches or winning them all and he's so right on that. I did laugh hard when Kevin Kelly said where did Pieter pull out that Keychain from?

I saw it again today Sabre JR ever so confident more than ever if he loses to Yano it sets up Ibushi and Ishii to win the Block right because in no way would they have KENTA who had a heck of a Match today with Hiromu win this Block. Hiromu really needs to be in this next Year he's done everything in the Junior Division he needs a challenge and moving up to heavyweight like Shingo, and Ospreay needs to happen if he ever wants to become World Champion one day.

G1 Climax 31 night 13 (October 9) Preview
Osaka sees A Block enter final third of league competition
20210918_G1_星取表_EN_A_OL-1-2.png

The G1 returns to Osaka on Saturday October 9. With six of nine block matches over, it’s the final stretch for A Block, and every win is vital on the road to next week’s block final in Yokohama.

Watch every G1 Climax 31 event LIVE in English on NJPW World!

Main event: Great-O-Khan (4-3) vs Kota Ibushi (5-2)
G1_20211009_06.jpg

Great-O-Khan and Kota Ibushi meet in O-Khan’s second consecutive main event in Osaka, and with both competitors still very much in the hunt when it comes to finals contention. This first time matchup will present an interesting stylistic clash that has the potential to wow the Osaka crowd; after mat wrestling with Yujiro Takahashi and grappling Zack Sabre Jr., O-Khan openly discussed that he wanted to strike with a run of strikers in the tournament. In Aichi, O-Khan got a different opposition than he was expecting, and outside the ring antics would add up to O-Khan’s second loss of the tournament. Four nights later in Hiroshima meanwhile, the hard hitting war that unfolded when O-Khan went toe to toe with Tomohiro Ishii again ended in defeat, and the Dominator now has to contend with the frustration of three consecutive losses.

With it being fairly safe to say that Ibushi will be much more straightahead than KENTA in the ring tonight in Osaka, how will O-Khan fare against the kicks of Ibushi? Indeed, will the Dominator seek to continue his plan of wrestling to his opponents’ strengths in order to test himself and show his superiority, or might he change tact and adopt some more underhanded tactics to help assure his spot in the Budokan final?

5th Match: Shingo Takagi (4-2) vs Tanga Loa (2-4)
G1_20211009_05.jpg

After a tough defeat to Kota Ibushi in Aichi, Shingo Takagi, and now stands in strong shape going into the final third. His tiebreak losses to Zack Sabre Jr and Kota Ibushi could prove dangerous however, as would letting his guard slip against Tanga Loa. After Loa secured his first earned G1 victory against Yujiro Takahashi, the Silverback has been self assured and confident in the ring, hanging with Ibushi with power moves and even a standing moonsault and poison rana. The match ended in defeat though, and with his road to the final now effectively ended, Loa is mainly fighting for pride, and spoiling Shingo would mean a lot of well earned pride indeed.

4th Match: Toru Yano (3-3) vs Yujiro Takahashi (2-4)
Singles record: 5-1 Yano, G1 record: 3-1 Yano
G1_20211009_04.jpg

With three matches left for each to wrestle in this year’s G1, chances of victory for Yujiro Takahashi are extremely slim. With his four points coming from Tetsuya Naito’s forfeit and one victory, Yujiro has the scantest of mathematical chances to stay in the hunt. Yet just as it was the quality of his sole win, against Jeff Cobb in G1 Climax 30 that paved the way for the Tokyo Pimp to be in this year’s tournament, so too is Yujiro’s pinfall win over front runner Kota Ibushi potentially crucial. That potential tiebreaker is what keeps Yujiro alive, but if he is to stay in the game past Osaka Saturday, he’ll need to beat Toru Yano.

That’s something Yujiro has only achieved the once, and back in 2014’s tournament at that. Seven years without a win for Yujiro over Yano is somewhat misleading though, as the two haven’t wrestled for over five years and a New Japan Cup victory for Yano in just 1:16. Will both men show the benefit of their intervening experience? Will this match be equally brief? We find out in Osaka.
3rd Match: Zack Sabre Jr. (5-1) vs KENTA (4-2)
Singles record: 2-1 KENTA, G1 record: 1-1

G1_20211009_03.jpg

Although both Zack Sabre Jr. and Kota Ibushi head to Osaka with ten points apiece, Ibushi’s bout with Great-O-Khan tonight will be his penultimate of the league, while Sabre still has three opponents left to face, giving him one match in hand, and the defacto top spot in A Block, a loss to Tomohiro Ishii his sole blemish. Could KENTA provide a second blot on his record? The two men have been linked since long before Sabre even came to Japan, let alone New Japan Pro-Wrestling, a test against KENTA on a European tour for Pro-Wrestling NOAH giving ZSJ a foot in the door to Japanese competition.

Well ovcer a decade later, Sabre and KENTA have met in two consecutive G1s, each proving to be one of the unsung classics of their respective tournaments. This match has every chance to be another hard fought encounter on paper, but KENTA’s recent track record may raise questions. Exposed turnbuckles, chair shots and low blows have all been part of KENTA’s repertoire in his recent matches, and with some success to boot. While he fell to Shingo Takagi, KENTA has beaten Tomohiro Ishii and, in non tournament action, Hiromu Takahashi all while irritating the NJPW fanbase to boot. Is this, as the man himself suggests, simply who the ‘2021 KENTA’ is? Will the proud fighter that still very much exists within KENTA be pitting his wits tonight, or will corners be cut?

2nd Match: Hiromu Takahashi vs Tomohiro Ishii
Singles record: 1-0 Takahashi

G1_20211009_02.jpg

Tomohiro Ishii’s make up match for Tetsuya Naito’s absence will see the 4-3 Stone Pitbull go up against Hiromu Takahashi. After a hard fought win against Great-O-Khan in Hiroshima this week, Ishii confessed that he thought of himself as being 3-3, and will be wrestling tonight as if two points were on the line, and Hiromu will gladly step up and confront Ishii on his own terms. In fact, Ishii will be looking for revenge against a man who can, and has beaten him in the past, during the empty arena stages of New Japan Cup 2020. Could Ishii be the first to lose his makeup match in this G1? It certainly wouldn’t be beyond the realm of possibility, and would let Hiromu truly show the ability and power of the junior heavyweights.

1st Match: Ryohei Oiwa & Kosei Fujita vs Suzuki-Gun (El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru)
G1_20211009_01.jpg

After Young Lions Ryohei Oiwa and Kosei Fujita each battled El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru in singles contests over four G1 nights, Osaka kicks off with tag team action. Oiwa and Fujita are heading into their first ever tag team match against the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag team Champions; the results are not in doubt, but what kind of fight will the newcomers be able to bring?

Just got to the 10 minute mark for this Evil/Tanahashi match and it already feels like a lifetime :heston

Cobb/Sanada was awesome tho
