Yeah the 2nd Half of the Main Event was really entertaining. Tomorrow is a must win for Ibushi he can't lose to Shingo and expect to have any chance to win the A Block. Kota might be willing to die tomorrow to beat Shingo and be close to Sabre JR and Sabre JR could lose to Ishii can and get cooled down after starting so hot who knows.

G1 Climax night 10 (October 4) preview 【G131】
B Block back in Korakuen

After stops in Shizuoka and Aichi, the G1 returns to Korakuen on Monday October 4, with B Block bringing the tournament past the midway point and into an intense second half.

Watch every G1 event LIVE in English on NJPW World, with tonight’s card FREE!

Main event: Kazuchika Okada (4-0) vs SANADA (2-2)
Singles record: 7-1 Okada G1 record: 2-1 Okada

G1_20211004_05.jpg

SANADA’s first, and to date only victory over Kazuchika Okada, earned in the 2019 G1 with only 13 seconds remaining on the clock came in the wake of Okada granting a rare accolade to one of his opponents that May in Fukuoka. After a pair of consecutive wins in the New Japan Cup final and then at Dontaku, Okada addressed SANADA as his ‘rival’ for the first time, but it was a word that seemed just as much a disingenuous, backhanded poke to get a rise from the normally collected SANADA as it was a genuine compliment.

Despite being the same age as the Rainmaker and having a wealth of pro-wrestling acumen, SANADA’s singles accomplishments have been dwarfed by Okada, and their 7-1 record against one another in Okada’s favour only serves to force that fact home. With the scoreline still at 6-0 then, SANADA was doubly driven to finally get his first victory over the CHAOS leader, doing so with a pair of moonsaults and finally putting Cold Skull on the fast track to the very front lines of NJPW.
Yet a couple of months later, his earned King of Pro-Wrestling title shot resulted, match of the year in 2019 or no, in defeat. Indeed it was a defeat at the hands of the very same Landslide style Tombstone, followed by the Rainmaker that has carried Okada to such success on this current G1. That sense of momentum finally earned and snatched away led to SANADA weeping bitter tears in Ryogoku, and will drive SANADA to revenge tonight in Korakuen.

While Okada has been away from the IWGP title scene, SANADA has made the finals of G1 Climax 30, the quarter finals of the New Japan Cup in 2021 (a tournament that saw Okada crash out in the first round), and has captured the IWGP Tag Team Championships. Yet still it is Okada and the Rainmaker Return making the headlines. Lest that stinging ‘rival’ comment haunt him once more, SANADA is driven to put an end to the momentum of Okada; the question is can he? For that matter, can anyone?

5th Match: Hirooki Goto (0-4) vs YOSHI-HASHI (1-3)
Singles record: 2-0 Goto

G1_20211004_04.jpg

After both Hirooki Goto and YOSHI-HASHI battled Kazuchika Okada in their more recent efforts in Hamamatsu and Korakuen respectively, the third and final CHAOS derby in B Block sees the two NEVER 6-Man Champions square off. Ever since Goto joined CHAOS in 2016, other members have commented on the similarities between he and YOSHI-HASHI in terms of a pure drive and simplicity of mindset. Yet a two point difference between the two men does exist, YOSHI-HASHI doing what his partner Goto could not in defeating Taichi in Hamamatsu Friday.

Indeed, Goto is crashing to potentially his career worst G1. With an 0-4 record, Goto might be looking for inspiration from his partner. Over their 13 months together as two thirds of the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champions, they have brought the best out of one another, but now, as YOSHI-HASHI stated backstage last week ‘I’ll be doing my best to be better than you’.

3rd Match: Taichi (2-2) vs Jeff Cobb (4-0)
Singles record: 2-1 Taichi G1 record: 1-1

G1_20211004_03.jpg

Of the three undefeated members still remaining in this year’s tournament, each achievement is impressive for different reasons; Zack Sabre Junior for his string of submissions, Kazuchika Okada for the return of the Rainmaker swagger to his step. Then there’s Jeff Cobb, whose dominant performances have seen him to match his prior G1 scores of eight points apiece after only four matches.

Taichi will give Cobb little pause, but pause all the same. Their first meeting at Dontaku 2019 saw Taichi lift the NEVER Openweight Championship after a match filled with interference and dirty tactics from the Holy Emperor. Still, it was a win via Black Mephisto that came despite the threat of a back injury. Two years on, and victory was a good deal more emphatic for Taichi after a hard fought and hard hitting bout in Osaka. Cobb wants to level the 2-1 score tonight in Korakuen, but Taichi badly wants to get back on his horse after defeats to EVIL and YOSHI-HASHI.

2nd Match: EVIL (3-1) vs Tama Tonga (1-3)
G1_20211004_02.jpg

The final BULLET CLUB derby of B Block will see EVIL take on Tama Tonga in a match where most of the drama will be taking place outside of the ring. That is very often the case with EVIL’s matches, considering the copiuous interference from Dick Togo, and the constant shots into the guardrails and NJPW’s timekeepers, yet tonight it will all take a very different dimension. From day one, EVIL’s HOUSE OF TORTURE was met with some wariness, not just from fans but other members of BULLET CLUB. Yet Tama Tonga was quick to welcome the sub faction into the fold, all while heaping dirt on Jay White as he keeps up his activities on NJPW STRONG. ‘Does he know?’ has been an ominour refrain from Tonga in this tournament, who has a habit of dropping breadcrumbs during the G1 tours; after all, it was two years ago that the ‘Good Bad Guy’ revealed he had been scouting a world class athlete for the group, who would turn out to be KENTA.

Friday in hamamatsu saw Chase Owens refuse to lie down for EVIL, and the King of Darkness pull out every dirty stop possible to defeat the Crown Jewel. Now this match will say a lot about the power dynamics of BULLET CLUB, be they through pure competition, or behind the curtain intrigue.

1st Match: Chase Owens (0-4) vs Hiroshi Tanahashi (3-1)
G1_20211004_01.jpg

After valiant efforts, Chase Owens is now feeling the pinch of four defeats in his first G1 matches. Yet his BULLET CLUB partner Yujiro Takahashi proved last year, as he went 0-8 and scored one last win over Jeff Cobb, sometimes in the G1 it’s not the number, but the quality of your wins that can stand you in good stead for the future. Zero points or not, against Hiroshi Tanahashi, Chase has the chance to defeat the Ace of New Japan and the current IWGP US Heavyweight Champion, something that could lead to a future title opportunity, and make a G1 32 entry much more likely. But now on a roll with his first definitive High Fly Flow victory of the tourney, Tanahashi will not let a win come easily, if at all.

I like both these new young lions so far in the small sample size. Oiwa is already pretty crisp and while Fujita is a bit tougher, he's so fucking animated and I love it lol

Ayo Wide Shots of Pieter come on now New Japan let her dance. Loa/Yujiro did deliver in their Match together and it was funny when Yujiro when he got into trouble early was like wait wait wait time to too sweet let's slow it down. The last two Matches for sure were great. Ishii vs Sabre JR was so intense like you said from start to finish and Ishii I felt was going to rip his Right Arm off if it meant that he could use to beat Sabre JR some more during the Match. Because of all the tiebreakers Sabre JR had going into that Match now things are going to be interesting down the stretch. The Match we should of been given we got vs Shingo and Ibushi and boy it was a wonderful Main Event to watch. Ibushi was fighting for his life in a sense he loses his journey to win the A Block is over and now beating Shingo he opens up the door for himself to win it

I'm looking at the Schedule Ibushi has Loa, Great O-Khan, and KENTA down the stretch

Sabre JR has Yujiro, KENTA, Yano. Why do I see him losing to Yano and losing to KENTA and I imagine Ibushi just needs to win out right to win the Block. Either way Ibushi will be given a World Title going forward after beating Shingo so the win over him is the Icing on the Cake especially if it leads to him winning the A Block.

G1 Climax 31 night 11 (October 7) preview 【G131】
A Block hits Hiroshima

As the tournament enters its second half, A Block hit Hiroshima less than a fortnight away from their final matches in Yokohama on October 18.
Watch every G1 event LIVE and in English on NJPW World!

Main event: Great-O-Khan (4-2) vs Tomohiro Ishii (3-3)
G1_20211007_06.jpg

After two straight losses for United Empire’s Dominator, and two straight wins for CHAOS’ Stone Pitbull, Tomohiro Ishii and Great-O-Khan head into their first singles match together in Hiroshima. Great-O-Khan has made it a point to adapt himself to the different styles of his opponents throughout this tour. That may mean trying to go toe to toe with Ishii, rarely a good idea for any competitor. Yet O-Khan’s reach may be enough to negate the Stone Pitbull’s knock out power Thursday night. Can the Dominator get back on track, or will it be Ishii, brimming with confidence after stopping Zack Sabre Jr.’s submission streak, out on top?

5th Match: Toru Yano (3-2) vs Shingo Takagi (3-2)
Singles record: 1-0 Takagi

G1_20211007_05.jpg

After his tapout loss to Zack Sabre Jr., Shingo Takagi battled back to a hard fought victory despite injured arm against KENTA in Korakuen. Aichi saw his momentum stalled once again however, a Kamigoye seeing Ibushi to his third win and Takagi to his second loss (and potentially second key tiebreaker when chips are down late in the tournament). Now, Yano presents very different opposition. At the best of times, Yano presents a manhole that countless competitors have fallen into over the years, and there’s no doubt that he’s of considerable danger to the Dragon tonight in Hiroshima. Will the Dragon’s ascent begin once again? Or will Yano have the last laugh?

4th Match: Zack Sabre Jr. (4-1) vs Yujiro Takahashi (2-3)
G1_20211007_04.jpg

Sunday night in Aichi saw Zack Sabre Jr.’s submission streak finally snapped, Tomohiro ishii withstanding incredible pain and punishment to come out with a pinfall victory and bring ZSJ to 4-1. The question now is how the Briton, still atop A Block can reset and move on with his campaign.

Yujiro Takahashi presents a winnable match for the Submission Master, and a chance to reassert dominance, but ZSJ cannot afford to be complacent. Kota Ibushi has already learned the dangers of taking the Tokyo Pimp lightly, and Yujiro is hungry for another victim, especially one sitting at the top of the standings.

3rd Match: Kota Ibushi (3-3) vs Tanga Loa (2-3)
G1_20211007_03.jpg

Momentum is a word often parroted through wrestling circles, but its significance to a competitor can never be underestimated. Momentum serves as currency in a microcosm of society where the rich tend to get richer, and the poor poorer. The haves and have nots are often clearly delineated, but here tonight, both Tanga Loa and Kota Ibushi walk in with bags of that currency, ready to wager.

After doubts circled around Kota Ibushi’s early G1 performances, the two time winner unveiled an inverted Kamigoye against Toru Yano, and used it on the way to victory over IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Shingo Takagi. Ibushi is now on a growing streak, and most important has pinned the champion, completing a difficult return to the front lines after his struggles with aspiration pneumonia.

Those struggles included a loss to Yujiro Takahashi, a man Tanga Loa beat last week in Hamamatsu to finally score his first career G1 win not via forfeit. Loa has become increasingly focused with each of his performances in this tournament, and the potential for him to string several wins together is certainly present; if he could upset Ibushi, the sky is the limit for the Silverback.

2nd Match: KENTA vs Hiromu Takahashi
G1_20211007_02.jpg

Originally scheduled to be Tetsuya Naito facing KENTA in block competition, Hiromu Takahashi will be Naito’s LIJ replacement in tournament action, and a bout that could well steal the entire show in Hiroshima. Hiromu has been determined to show the unique worth and strength of the junior heavyweight division, and will no doubt do just that when best of the Super Jr. 28 gets underway this November. But here the Time Bomb gets a unique chance to bring the fight to heavyweight compeititon, and will not be planning to take his foot off the gas.

1st Match: Ryohei Oiwa vs El Desperado
G1_20211007_01.jpg

Another Young Lion test match sees Ryohei Oiwa kick off the action tonight against El Desperado. With both Oiwa and Kosei Fujita falling to Yoshinobu Kanemaru in around seven and a half minutes this weekend, how will Oiwa fare against kanemaru’s tag partner tonight?
