From someone who's been to Iraq twice, The Hurt Locker SUCKED.

I understand it's just a movie but it sucked.

^ This is the jist I got from it. I'm far from visiting Iraq any time soon. Nor do I know a damn thing about the phsycology of the soliders over there.

At first, I believed Hurt Locker portrayed shit perfectly. It was so realistic to me, and it just owned. Honestly, no one can say that the movie isn't entertaining. I saw it in my World History class, and my teacher kept rambling his mouth about how the movie had tons of controversy over how unrealistic it was. I was like 'WTF', and he discussed to us how soliders shouldn't be taking those chances that the main protaganist took, and all that. That's probably where gates is coming from. Though I think ALL American soliders hate on Iraq movies because they don't really portray the way they feel. Yet, come on, it's just a movie. Unless it's directed by an ACTUAL solider, I doubt the film you guys long for will ever come out.

That's just how I see it. Hurt Locker owned, and is in my opinion the best Iraq movie to date, and I marked the fuck out for Jarhead. Avatar really wasn't that entertaining tbh. I'm not going to just band wagon like other people in the thread did. I just honestly am not the biggest fan of fantasy shit like that. Well I am, but I don't know blue people really didnt' interest, or appeal to me, and the plot seemed like a futuristic wanna'be version of Pocahontus. Am I the only one that thought this? lolz

EDIT ~ btw the only negative about Hurt Locker was that shitty ass ending.

Hurt Locker was damn good but the cast in both Avatar and District 9 were far superior to the cast in the Hurt Locker imo. If they didn't want the highest grossing movie to win then District 9 should have won. Not to mention these movies had awesome effects to go along with the superior cast over Hurt locker.

But it doesn't matter. It's what the better quality movie was.

It wasn't Best Cast or Best Blue Flying Thingies, it was Best Overall picture.

I've heard that a lot of people in the military hate The Hurt Locker. Just wondering, why don't you like it?
Three parts stand out in my mind:

#1) EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) teams would NEVER. EVER. EEEEEEEVVVVVER get into a Sniper engagement in the middle of the desert and not have ANYBODY else in the area to back them up. Trust me, it would never happen because soldiers don't just "Cowboy" around over there by themselves in a Humvee. You are required to take certain numbers of soldiers with you, so that part of the movie is complete horseshit. Why didn't they just call for help? Come on!!

#2) 3 guys (especially EOD) don't just show up somewhere and clear a building by themselves. They must have had some Call of Duty expert as their military on-set advisor, what do ya think? EOD don't clear buildings. They're busy and are protected by Combat Engineers who have a related job, but act as security escorts.

#3) Yeah we drink EVERY day in Iraq! We get all the booze we want, right guys? No booze in Iraq, it's illegal to drink in uniform and while deployed. Commanders use urinalysis testing (done randomly) all the time to test for drugs and alcohol. It's theater policy, and it's strict, believe me.

Dude, I have the upmost respect for you being a solider & shit,

but it seems like if you weren't a solider the movie wouldn't have been that bad for you. Because the average person, DOESN'T know any knowledge of the three points you made.

Tried watching Avatar and fell asleep.
Tried watching District 9 too slow to start.
Watched Hurt Locker like 5234085203453 times, awesome movie. Didn't need dumb effects to be bad ass.

Not all you said is always true. My best friend went to Iraq and I've seen videos of what they would get away with in there off time. People drinking and shit like that, hell even dudes trippin balls on pills and shit. Maybe your in a stricter part but shit like that can happen.

That's why I said "Theater Policy" which encompasses the Iraq Theater, meaning ALL OF IRAQ. Your best bro may have used, but that just means he had a shit excuse for a leadership chain is all. Drugs and Drinkin' isn't some "way of life" as Hurt Locker makes it look like. Random urinalysis and lack of access to booze and drugs keeps people sober.
