A pair of key featherweight matchups have been added to July's UFC 162 event, as former UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar (15-4-1 MMA, 9-4-1 UFC) faces Charles Oliveira (16-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) and Dennis Siver meets Cub Swanson.

UFC officials today announced the new matchups.

Featuring a middleweight title fight between current champ Anderson Silva and undefeated contender Chris Weidman, UFC 162 takes place July 6 at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Edgar seeks his first win at featherweight after falling short in his first fight at the weight in a bout with current champion Jose Aldo. The former IFC lightweight champ is currently mired in a three-fight losing streak despite being competitive in the bout with Aldo and a pair of contest with current lightweight champ Benson Henderson. The fight will be Edgar's first non-title fight since a December 2009 win over Matt Veach.

Meanwhile, Oliveira is also a former lightweight who now fights for the fourth time at 145 pounds. The Brazilian youngster opened his run in the division with stoppage wins over Jonathan Brookins and Eric Wisley before suffering a knockout loss to Swanson at this past September's UFC 152 event.

Much needed win for Edgar here, I'd imagine the two winners of these fights will face off with each other at some point. I am sort of surprised they didn't go with Edgar/Swanson though on this card.

Edgar has to win to keep his job but i do see Edgar winning this fight. Swanson with a win i think puts him close to a title shot.

Winning to keep his job is going well overboard but he definitely needs the win.

He's lost three fights. If it was basically anyone else, this was be a fight to keep his job, but he draws a lot of people. I don't think Edgar should have a problem winning this fight. Bendo and Aldo are both far more skilled and he took Bendo to the very edge the second time and basically did the same with Aldo.

Korean Zombie/Ricardo Lamas is on this card too, so will prol be billed as a "featherweight tournament like UFC 158 was with the welters.

Don't think Edgar gets cut if he loses. Leonard Garcia could of lost 8/9 of his last fights if it wasn't for robberies yet Dana keeps him because he "comes to fight". Same with Dan Hardy and Ed Herman. If he loses to Olivera he probably should be cut, in all honesty.

Edgar might have lost three in a row but they were all title shots and two of those fights were FOTN winners, his job is very safe with UFC. I will be very shocked if he loses here, should have too much class for Oliveira.
