Frank Mir (16-6 MMA, 14-6 UFC) will not fight Daniel Cormier (10-0 MMA, 7-0 SF), as it turns out.

An undisclosed injury has forced the ex-UFC champ to withdraw from "Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Mir," which takes place Nov. 3 at Chesapeake Energy Center in Oklahoma City, Okla., and airs live on Showtime and Showtime Extreme.

MMAjunkie.com (mmajunkie.com) confirmed the news on Tuesday night with a source close to the promotion following an initial report from news show Sports Rage. It's unknown whether a replacement for Mir has been found.

Sources indicated to MMAjunkie.com that a knee injury is to blame for Mir's withdrawal.

Mir was set to be the first active UFC fighter to cross over to Strikeforce. His matchup with Cormier materialized after fellow ex-UFC champ Tim Sylvia was nixed for a potential headliner with the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix champion.

In his most recent appearance, Mir replaced Alistair Overeem to fight UFC heavyweight champ Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146 and lost via second-round TKO. It was his second failed bid to regain the undisputed belt after a motorcycle accident forced him to relinquish the title he won at UFC 48.

The broken leg he sustained kept him out of action for nearly two years.

The undefeated Cormier most recently outpointed Josh Barnett to win the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix after entering the eight-man tournament in the semifinals as an alternate.

Of course this ended up being true. I guess it's time to call Sylvia up again.

DANG MAN! I was really looking forward to this fight. I don't wanna see Sylvia come in and gas after a minute and then get beat up.

Seeing as the UFC was willing to send Mir, i wonder if they'd be willing to send some other HW over to fight him.

But who could they send? I mean Mir is a top notch fighter so I doubt they'd send just anybody. Gotta be a pretty good fighter they send.

For some reason I'm blanking out on the HW division, could send Big Foot over for a rematch with Cormier.

Looking at the top ten list on ESPN... they could send Werdum over there. I was just hoping for an actual UFC fighter ya know. Not like a guy that was over Strikeforce then had one or two fights and then back to Strikeforce.

Werdum would be a good fight. He's looked pretty awesome in his last two. Hard to see that one happening though. We'll have to wait and see what happens with it all.

It does seem doable and seeing his much improved stand up combined with his killer sub skills... I'd like it. I don't think he has any fight lined up and his last fight was June. Means he'd have at least a month to train. Not the most ideal but it wouldn't be too short notice. I just hope they send a good fighter.

Yeah I'm actually surprised Werdum doesn't have a fight lined up, if he doesn't get pegged into the Strikeforce card I'm hoping that he fights the winner of Big Foot/Browne.

Werdum could derail Cormiers hype train though, Mir was the perfect opponent; Big name, sells tickets, but he's sooooooo unbelievably slow and predictable these days that Cormier would pick him apart easily. Werdums a much harder fight.

But thats the thing... standing Cormier could have had him but as soon as it got to the ground... Mir I would say is more dangerous than Werdum and could latch on to a limb and make him tap just like that. Mir's standup is improving but his ground game is more lethal than anybody's out there. I mean shoot look what he did to a healthy Big Nog... just one little slip up and trapped him in a kimura.

Werdum would give him a challenge both standing and on the ground as well. Hmmm... so yeah Mir would have been the better challenge for Cormier if he could score the KO. But Werdum would be an awesome fight to watch. But I still think Mir could have stopped him. Mir's standup is kinda underrated.

Bad news since I'm a huge Frank Mir fan. If they put Werdum in the slot, that would make up for it.

Werdum is the most dangerous jits guy there is (only Palhares and Shields come close IMO) and Mir's standup is absolute trash.

I can't say I'm too disappointed in this, because I wanted Mir/Barnett anyway and that should be the fight to make when he's back fit.

Tim Sylvia is a dire substitute for anyone though, if he got a main event slot on Showtime after all the turd he's laid on PPV over the years, he's the biggest hustler there is.
