But thats the thing... standing Cormier could have had him but as soon as it got to the ground... Mir I would say is more dangerous than Werdum and could latch on to a limb and make him tap just like that. Mir's standup is improving but his ground game is more lethal than anybody's out there. I mean shoot look what he did to a healthy Big Nog... just one little slip up and trapped him in a kimura.

Werdum would give him a challenge both standing and on the ground as well. Hmmm... so yeah Mir would have been the better challenge for Cormier if he could score the KO. But Werdum would be an awesome fight to watch. But I still think Mir could have stopped him. Mir's standup is kinda underrated.

It would have been a big ask for Mir to take him down though, Frank has very limited and very slow takedowns. The JDS fight for example, Junior saw all his shots coming from a mile away and just shrugged him off. Cormier is a high level wrestler who would stuff his takedowns even easier and Mir might have underrated standup for an MMA application (maybe) but his standup is terrible.

Werdums become a real wrecking machine as of late, Werdum-Cormier would be a great fight.

The UFC injury run even strikes a Strikeforce event! Amazing how many injuries there have been over the past year, so many big matches have had to be changed because of it. Werdum would be a good replacement although I agree it takes some of the appeal of it as it isn't a UFC fighter being sent over.
