This movie is timeless and still ever so relevant after all this time. In fact, I would say it only seems to get better with time and each viewing. The premise is fantastic and it's a really well-thought out movie with great characters and dialogue. The writing in this is truly outstanding, it hits so well and it's highly memorable. The comedy moments really hit and it's very funny, but the more serious and more dramatic sides to the film are very on point and resonate well. This I would say is my favourite 'Workplace comedy' outside of The Office. If we're talking strictly films, this is the best for me and I always have a great time rewatching it. It's just chock-full of iconic scenes.​

Ha, I've actually thought about doing that as a concept for my next thread. I'd let people send in their personal Top 3 worst movies they've seen and I would randomly draw the movies out of that. It could be fun, well for you guys. Probably not for me. I imagine I would have a hard time reviewing as I always tend to look at things in a positive lens and it would be hard to do that if they're like just objectively bad. So it'd be quite the challenge!

We'll see, anyways. Thank you guys for checking out the the thread, it really means a lot to me.

Synopsis: Stu Shepard, a publicist, finds himself in a nightmarish situation when he answers a ringing phone at a phone booth. The mysterious caller threatens to shoot him if he cuts the call.

Maybe hasn't aged too well being set in a Phone Booth, but to me this is one of the most thrilling and intense movies out there. It still manages to get me on the edge of my seat even though I know every plot point and where every scene is heading to. That to me is a sign of a tremendous piece of work. This was one of the first major roles where I really took a liking to Colin Farrell as an actor. He dominates majority of the screentime and does a stellar job. I always liked the way his character develops and grows throughout the movie. He starts out very brash and cocky and unlikeable, but you grow to really care about him as it goes on. Kiefer Sutherland is fantastic, his voice as the sniper just really adds a special touch to this movie. It can't be stated enough how much value he gives to it. The way he uses his voice to set the tone is masterful, and I love that they never show him on screen, only for a brief part. Joel Schumacher's direction style is really good, the way he pulls the viewer in to the scenes and I love his choice of camera angles.​

Synopsis: Lawyer Richard Goodwin discovers that 'Twenty-One', a successful TV quiz show, is rigged and decides to expose the team behind the show.

When you think of the letter 'Q' I find that a lot of movies don't immediately jump in to your mind. Unlike the other movies in this list, I actually had to search around for a bit and look up IMDB for help to find my next one. Then I came across Quiz Show, directed by Robert Redford and starring names such as Ralph Fiennes and John Turturro, which just immediately sold me. I am very glad I watched this. The premise was fantastic and I enjoyed reading up on the real life scandal more in depth afterwards. I found it to be a very compelling movie and so superbly written. The performances were really excelent as well and it just reminded me of how underrated of an actor John Turturro is.​

Synopsis: Two salesmen, Danny and Wheeler, are asked to undergo several hours of community service. During their service, they are asked to mentor a young boy and help him overcome his addiction.

A really funny, well-written and charming buddy comedy that I feel often gets forgotten about with some of the other greats. Me personally, I would put this up there in a heartbeat. As big fan of Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd, this was in a lot of ways like the perfect comedy for me. I am big fan of Seann because of American Pie and it's always nice when he gets chance to really shine in movies such as this. The chemistry he has with Rudd just feels completely natural and I love the way they both bounce off each other. You just instantly vibe with the characters. You also have Christopher Mintz-Plasse who was just coming off the incredible Superbad, so it was awesome to see him in something like this as well. It's just a great time with all of that late 2000's charm.​

Synopsis: After being kicked out of his rock band, Dewey Finn becomes a substitute teacher of an uptight elementary private school, only to try and turn his class into a rock band.

School of Rock is one of those movies that just gets so many things right. Casting Jack Black in this role is as close to perfection as you are ever gonna get. He was literally made to play this role and it completely shows. He just totally owns the character Dewey and morphs in to it. It's such a sweet, feel-good movie that really lifts your spirits and makes you feel upbeat and positive about life. It always makes me feel like I can do or achieve anything if I just set my mind to it. The way the characters all come together to make music and the chemistry that grows between them throughout the movie is just really beautiful and touching. It's so funny and so heartwarming to watch. The premise is executed so perfectly, there's not a single dull moment of this movie. It's filled with so many good scenes, memorable lines and of course some kick ass music. The young cast in this movie are all really impressive aswell.​

Synopsis: Adventurer Rick O'Connell, Egyptologist Evelyn and her clumsy brother inadvertently wake up a bedevilled mummy, Imhotep, Pharaoh Seti I's high priest, during a dig at the ancient city of Hamunaptra.

A pure blast from start to finish, I absolutely adore this movie. I first saw it when I was quite young and was just totally enthralled by it. There was a point where I'd just rewatch it constantly, never ever growing tired of it. It's so adventurous and exciting, filled with likeable characters and a really charming, witty protagonist in Rick O'Connell who's played tremendously well by Brendan Fraser. The dialogue is filled with so many memorable lines and entertaining, humorous exchanges. The movie at the time had some amazing special effects and visuals and I really do think it holds up well in that regard. It's just one of those movies where you can shut your brain off for a while and get lost in the world it creates. It takes you on such an exhilarating journey.​

Synopsis: Carl, an old widower, goes off on an adventure with the help of Russell, a boy scout, in his flying house to search for Paradise Falls, his wife's dream destination.

To me, this is one of the most perfect Pixar movies. They have a lot of incredible ones such as Toy Story and Monsters, Inc. but something about Up has just really stuck with me throughout all these years, it just had such a massive emotional impact on me. The premise is awesome. The story is beautiful and so heartwarming, it makes you smile and cry. It's just a whole rollercoaster of emotions watching it, especially that first time you see it. Oh man, I was a wreck for days afterwards. I often find myself just thinking about it at random times, watching the scenes and feeling the urge to see it all again. I'd probably credit its staying power for me primarily to the opening scene, which is just phenomenally set out with the way its presented and the gut punch it delivers. I found it to be highly emotional and moving. The characters are fantastic and really memorable. It takes you on such an adventure.​

Gonna try to continue this even though it's been like forever. At this rate, it's going to be one of my longest running threads that I finish, but damn I'm determined

I never really watch a lot of movies with V in the title it seems, but I did see VHS recently for Halloweeen coming up, so I'll just do that one.

Synopsis: A group of burglars who have the habit of filming their crimes on tape get hired by an unknown accomplice to break into a house and steal a V/H/S tape with some valuable footage.

This is probably in my Top 3 found footage horrors if I had to choose. I like that they have a reason for the videotapes being found and show that side of it as well. The anthology aspect of this is pretty awesome and very appealing to me as it means that you get a bit of everything from different genres which I enjoy quite a bit. They are not all slam dunks, but I enjoy how each one brings something fresh to the table and each have a diffrent story and direction, all being by different directors. I almost always come away from these movies liking at least one of the short horror films. The best one in this for me is probably the first Amateur Night as it's super disturbing and I think it has an incredible build-up and twist.​

Synopsis: Andrew enrols in a music conservatory to become a drummer. But he is mentored by Terence Fletcher, whose unconventional training methods push him beyond the boundaries of reason and sensibility.

This is one of those movies that from start to finish I would consider it to be one of the most perfect movies ever made. Right from the opening scenes it grips you tight and sucks you in to the world that it creates. The storytelling, build-up and development of the characters is just incredible. There's not many movies I feel that manage to feel as close to real life as this does. Sometimes it is hard to believe you are just watching actors play fictional characters because the performances are so raw and realistic. Especially JK Simmons. It can't be stated enough how amazing his performance is and the way in which he is able to just masterfully control the screen and command a room, he completely alters the feeling of a scene and creates tension like the flip of a light bulb. Miles Teller really shines too and gives one of his best performances. His character Andrew goes through such a wild range of emotions and he nails every single aspect of it. It's just one of those movies that you never really stop thinking about ever after seeing it. It's completely unforgettable. So many of the scenes will just live rent free in my head forever I think.​

Synopsis: A filmmaking crew and the cast make an adult movie at a reclusive place but elderly hosts find them and try to kill them.

As you might expect with me being such the horror buff that I am, this was the movie that immediately sprung to mind straight away when I got to this letter. It's been a while since I watched it too from start to end so I was very excited to see it all again. I've always been a fan of Ti West's work as a director, even if not every movie of his has fully landed for me or been able to maintain the same consistent sort of quality throughout. I just like that he's not afraid to try new things or mess around with unique filming styles and techniques. I love when directors take a chance, horror is often a genre that needs freshening up from time to time. What I really love about this movie in particular though is that it feels like a massive homage to Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Tobe Hooper's direction style. If you go back and watch it after seeing this, you will notice how a lot of the scenes have taken massive inspiration from it in a huge way with how they are set out and filmed. It has that isolated setting aswell that I loved about TCM. It's very seedy and atmospheric. The cast are all great and I really am happy that it paved the way for Mia Goth to continue to blow up in popularity.​
