Wrestling locker rooms are full of rules. Wrestling is in essence a carnival culture. A little world within itself with its own set of rules and laws. And one of the biggest rules is "don't be a fan of yourself", its perfectly fine to have a big of an ego and to see your own value, but you don't make yourself out to be something you aren't. And getting a tattoo directly commemorating your accomplishments is seen as self marking. You're supposed to be a fan of the business you work in, not yourself. As I said in a previous post, she could get a tattoo to celebrate, but she should have made it something that doesn't obviously scream "I GOT A FAKE BELT IN A FAKE SPORT". It could have been a spider, a star, anything else. The tattoo wouldn't loose any meaning for her since she would know why she got it. Edge for example got stars on his arm when he was made into a main event player.
As for the WWE.com thing. It's not those nerds AJ has heat from, but the locker room, the people on the road, the ring crew and such. The nerds writing articles for WWE.com aren't on the road and thus don't fall in under the same rules.
And wrestling locker room rules in general can be weird. Miz got thrown out of the locker room once for eating a piece of chicken at the wrong place. And Triple H (who is now the boss), got buried to hell and back for hugging his friends were fans could see. Basically you need to be a wrestler to get all the rules. Had this been a couple of years ago AJ would have been put through hell for getting that tattoo.
Well those rules are stupid. Who isn't a fan of themselves? Give me a break.
The tattoo means a lot to AJ and her fans, it looks cool, and there's nothing wrong with it. Case closed.
