Because many people consider fans of theirs outside of Manchester to be bandwagon jumpers because they win a lot. Same as people who think that of some Yankees fans who don't live in New York.
I see. TBH I always thought you should just support your local team anyway. But that's just me.

Man U is the only soccer team I even know the name of
Same here... lol

May I ask why having Man U as your favorite Soccer/European Football team is such a big deal? If you like Man U, you like Man U, right?

It's not really the fact that they support Man U, It's the fact that they make fun of people who support there local teams because there not as good or as big as Man U.

To add to that point, I feel most people should support their local team (if they have one) unless they are from the area that the team they support play in or have a family member who raised them to cheer for that team. Case in point, if you were born in Toronto, you should be cheering for the Blue Jays, not the Yankees. Now if you're dad was a Yankee fan growing up (because Toronto didn't get the Jays until the 1970's) then its perfectly acceptable to cheer for them because of the family connection. However, I cannot stand bandwagon jumpers and to use an example, I saw a guy the other day walking around with a Yankees jacket over his Man U jersey and to top it off he was wearing a Miami Heat hat. What a fucking knob.

I support the Puerto Rico Islanders... I know that's not a big as a team but is my local team (and maybe the only recognized team in Puerto Rico). Out of Puerto Rico I like Santos of Brazil and Barcelona, just because I love the way they play and when "El Clasico" is played during the Semester the pub in front of my College always shows it and it's fun to cheer one or the other just for the fun of it.
