Guerrero won the Tag titles. A mid card title. Take it how you like it. But I could also throw in names like JBL winning the US title and Rey, who was far more over than Punk has ever been, winning the IC title.

Punk's reigns SUCKKEED. Besides retiring Jeff Hardy, his reigns were boring and he was booked like a fluke champ. Bitched by Taker. Bitched by Batista. Remember that? And don't tell lies, Punk didn't make Jeff Hardy the most over face, Hardy had basically been the most over face for two years leading up to his Punk feud. Don't get me wrong, Punk is fucking awesome, but he isn't that over. Sheamus is more over. Barrett is getting more over. It could be the booking, it could be the marks ignorance, but Punk isn't over enough to carry the world strap, and adding prestige to the mid card titles, well, there is nothing wrong with that.

Benoit's title run was better than Punks, 1. because THEY DIDN'T MAKE HIM LOOK LIKE A BITCH. 2. He went over clean every time he defended the strap, even when Punk was a face I can't think of anytime he went over clean, besides retiring Jeff Hardy. 3. Benoit HEADLINED AND GOT A FREAKING OVATION at WRESTLEMANIA. That right there shows he was more over at that point than Punk has ever been. Sorry, I love Punk, but he's not over enough to headline a Wrestlemania. He still hasn't had a defining WWE match and outside his feuds with Rey and Jeff, still hasn't had an epic main event feud. He feuding with a guy who's probably on equal footing with him in Daniel Bryan adds prestige to a mid card title, what, regardless of how the belt has been booked (and with Miz holding it for a majority of the past year, making it booked fairly well) to mean, is always a good thing to do for business. Notice how world champs are lasting a little longer now? I'm starting to detect the E trying to restore some prestige to their main belts, mid card straps included. Punk's really not ready for another world title run, if Edge hasn't gotten his shine on, Punk shouldn't either. Punk is fine where he's at, the top of the card is full , so his place is fine and maybe a couple of good upper mid card feuds get him going and he's ready for a run up top in six months when he finally reaches that level of overness he needs

Like every world champ has won the tag titles while or after being world champ, rofl. And JBL is in the same boat as Benoit, even closer to Punk, because JBL was also godly on the mic.

I guess saying he made Hardy the most over face was false but putting each other on the map, so to speak, in the main event scene was legit. That feud was awesome and it did make both much more over and established especially much more than anything that year. How is Sheamus more over than Punk? Sheamus doesn't get near the reaction, even during SES, Punk got the biggest heel reaction on the brand even when Sheamus was feuding with John fucking Cena. Sheamus and Punk were booked and talked as EQUAL in Bragging Rights, that's where I drew the conclusion, it was from kayfabe directly from the WWE which is why it would be stupid and nonsensical for one to go into mid-title contention. This has nothing to do with Barrett, but right now I'd agree he's becoming a bigger star than both and is booked as such.

He wasn't booked as a 'bitch' because he was a fucking face. Every heel is booked like a bitch. I never once referred to Punk's face run, because I know that was a failure. He was heel when feuding with Jeff. When'd I say Benoit wasn't more over than Punk? They portrayed different roles, so it's hard to judge how if one was more over as a face than the other was a heel, it's almost pointless. The question was who's run was more of a success. While Benoit had a great win at WM finally getting the title after over a decade of work, the run all around was terribly shitty (not as shitty as Punk's face one obviously, which btw he did defend it clean vs. JBL which was like his only feud though, just like Benoit's only 'clean' singles win was against Kane and I think that Iron Man with Triple H) and lead to nothing. Punk WAS over enough to win the title, you really think it wouldn't have made sense for him to be champion during SES? I don't think you were even watching all the shows at that period. He was retardedly over, I'm surprised people weren't throwing shit at him. That's why people say it's like the biggest missed ship so far. You had a heel who coulda so easily being catapulted to the top, much more than deserving, much more fucking reaction than SHEAMUS has ever gotten in his life. He's really almost always remained the same reaction, nowadays he's getting cheered a bit though so it's hard to say if you he could go mega heel again. And like I said earlier, if Sheamus is 'over enough' to enter the title picture then so is Punk. I don't see how you would place him above Punk.

S'true; Sheamus has never been anywhere near as over as Punk was during (and for a while AFTER) HIS WHC reign on SD.

CM Punk's level of overness was true the roof. How the crowd would come down on him during his straightedge promos was amazing. Besides, he added a breath of fresh air to every match he was in. A promo during an entrance at Mania? A promo during an Elimination Chamber? A promo during the Royal Rumble? Crowd ate all of that. His feud with Rey started amazingly...then, and imo thanks to having to build that Fatal Four Way match, he started losing momentum, then entered that god awful feud with Big Show, and then got all his momentum squashed by Taker twice and by feuding on TV with Gallows for one show, uggh.

Now, let me tell you something, that at least happened to me. Punk looks weird now. The tats on his chest are weird. His blondeish/black hair was weird. He lost his character. The amazing beard set him apart in a good way. I know I haven't gotten used to his new look, and his new look falls flat imo.
