The singing and the catchphrase worked because people liked Rusev to begin with. The catchphrase and the singing is something fans latched onto because they liked Rusev. Without Rusev you have nothing.

Disagree. From what i've seen he is extremely athletic. Absolute beast. Bet AJ is happy to be wrestling someone like Rusev. Can have some great matches.

Handsome Rusev. Rusev has been on fire on Twitter over the last few years. He is a bookie Eastern European. How tf does he not have a character?

It's because Rusev is someone the fans wanted to see get over. The gimmick allowed it to happen. The fans latched onto it and more people joined the bandwagon. There's a reason why Rusev has a cult following. It's because he must have something very appealing. Eg. his wrestling and personality.
Yes, cuz Twitter is a wrestling character

It is a way a wrestler can interact with the audience. You can portray your character using social media. no fucking shit sherlock
Yeah, a way for it to be completely ignored on tv. Hence Luke Harper's twitter. There's a difference between having a good twitter and having good character

Rusev provided a foundation; English built upon that foundation.

Everything he does is soft and weak looking. Nobody has to be as stiff as Lesnar or Nakamura, but he might as well be having a pillow fight whenever he's wrestling. He needs to be more rough and impactful.

I've literally never heard of "Handsome Rusev" until just now. I don't recall seeing that on TV, and if it's not on TV, then it's not important.

Being from <insert geographic region here> is only a character whenever he does something with that nationality. Being Bulgarian hasn't been relevant since his yawn inducing "hecc amerika" gimmick that he discarded after the Cena feud.

There's a reason why Rusev has a cult following. It's because he must have something very appealing. Eg. his wrestling and personality.
And I love Big Show despite many being very much on the opposite side of that spectrum. People have different views; these are clearly mine.

Not talking about having a good character. All i'm saying Twitter is a way of portraying your character. That's all I said and i'm right for saying it.

He put the cherry on the top. He contributed to the marketing.

He has had some good ass matches. Wrestling AJ will make him even better.

It was on TV. Besides AJ Styles beat KO for the US title not on TV. So I don't know what you are talking about. The kayfabe world of wrestling does not stop when the TV cameras stop. John Cena got kayfabe stabbed in a nightclub ffs.

He has keys to a city and we have been introduced to his family. I'm from Europe and I can see that Rusev reeks with that Eastern European personality. Kinda like how people like Becky because of her Irish charm. Peoples national identity and culture is a very important part of someone's character. Rusev having a different culture to us and having different traditions and personality adds to his wrestling character. But hey maybe that doesn't matter in America. Since most American only think they are the only country in the world lol.

Sure. Like when Rusev and Lana weren't supposed to actually be a couple and iirc he didn't speak English. Great character building, you're totally right

Um no we just think that America is the best country. Whether it is or not is up for debate but we certainly realize there's other countries

Didn't even mention that. And I don't know how that has got to do with wrestlers portraying their characters on Twitter....

It was a joke. It's a joke that the rest of world make about the US. Take it on the chin.

You did in a way though. If wrestlers twitter are supposed to be kayfabe and a way to build character, how is breaking kayfabe so drastically something that supports your argument? It's either one or the other

And how would I know that? I live in the US, not some third world country that doesn't matter ;)

Didn't say that Twitter was SUPPOSED to be in kayfabe. People can do what the fuck they want on Twitter. But fair play to a wrestler portraying their character on Twitter because it is smart. Its 2018 Kayfabe is dead. What do you mean it's either one or another?

You can't say that Twitter is great for building character but then say that kayfabe is also dead. There's a reason they all have WWE controlled Facebook accounts but can also have separate personal ones for their friends and family

I'm about to leave for lunch, so you won't hear back from me for a while.

He has had some good ass matches.
List them.

It was on TV. Besides AJ Styles beat KO for the US title not on TV. So I don't know what you are talking about. The kayfabe world of wrestling does not stop when the TV cameras stop. John Cena got kayfabe stabbed in a nightclub ffs.
The vast majority of things that do not occur on TV can be dismissed. How many house shows have title changes, hmm? Did WWE actually fake a stabbing at a nightclub or just report it on their television?

He has keys to a city and we have been introduced to his family. I'm from Europe and I can see that Rusev reeks with that Eastern European personality. Kinda like how people like Becky because of her Irish charm. Peoples national identity and culture is a very important part of someone's character. They call him the Bulgarian Brute, but that's the beginning and end of Bulgaria being relevant to his character. What has he done that is distinctly Bulgarian? If you removed the homeland of Bulgaria from his character, nothing changes except is nickname. He's still the exact same person only now he's from a different country. I've spoken to a Bulgarian, Latvian, and a Pole. All of them have more "Eastern European personality" than Rusev. If average dudes on the Internet have more character than someone whose entire job is portray a fictional character, then something's gone wrong. Maybe they can make Rusev a plumber and enter him in the UK tournament as a Polish nationalist.

Since most American only think they are the only country in the world lol.
America isn't the only country in the world; America is my world.

Why? Kayfabe is dead. Kayfabe is only real to kids who don't know yet. Does that mean that wrestlers can no longer portray their characters? Of course not. Kayfabe is dead, but that does not mean wrestlers can't be wrestlers.

List them.
Good ass Rusev matches? ok, from the top of my head.

-He had a couple of good ass matches with Cena
- Had a good ass match with Swagger in 2014. Flag match at Summerslam was really good
- Good ass match with Big E in 2014
- Owens vs Rusev vs Cesaro was a good ass match
- Fun good ass opener with Roman at HIAC 2016

He probably has a lot more good ass matches. Bearing in mind he is not the sort of guy who gets a consistent amount of opportunities to have good ass matches on ppv.

The vast majority of things that do not occur on TV can be dismissed. How many house shows have title changes, hmm? Did WWE actually fake a stabbing at a nightclub or just report it on their television?
So what if it's the vast majority. The vast majority doesn't matter. Who cares what the Ascension have for breakfast? But when a title changes hands off tv it obviously means something, it's a title change ffs lol. Who cares about the vast majority? I didn't even debate that.

Stuff happens outside of TV that matters. They announced Kurt Angle's return to the ring not on TV ffs. Stuff outside WWE has a impact on WWE programming. Important events off TV is important. Guesse why? It's because they are important. Important stuff can happen off TV.

They call him the Bulgarian Brute, but that's the beginning and end of Bulgaria being relevant to his character. What has he done that is distinctly Bulgarian? I don't see how you can dismiss his character because he isn't as eastern european then some randoms on the internet. Rusev has a character it's the reason he has a cult following in the first place.

Rusev Machka is over.

Um no dude. Pick one side or the other. Either kayfabe is dead, or wrestlers should have character. Picking both sides at the same time is merely a lame cop-out which you'll use for self-validation over your feelings for the meme which is Rusev

Kayfabe is dead. No denying that. If anybody doesn't think that then they are dumb. Kayfabe is dead.

But by your logic. Just because Kayfabe is dead, wrestlers can't have characters? wtf? Then what's the point of professional wrestling in 2018? Kayfabe is dead but that doesn't mean wrestlers can't keep kayfabe and portray their characters. It's just that everybody knows it's not real. Kayfabe is dead in the sense that nobody watches wrestling and believes its legit.
