That is a fantastic story, thanks for sharing. It's quite strange how many situations like that arise. One day, my Mum heard a very loud knock on the door. I was outside and no one else was in, so she went to answer the door. No one was at the door, but because it was so loud she went outside to check around our garden area to see if things were okay, and she found me crying my eyes out because a plank of wood with a nail in it fell and scratched the side of my head near my temple. The cut was really deep and there was blood everywhere. If she hadn't of heard that knock on the door, she wouldn't have found me. Nobody knocked on the door.

I don't think I would have died, but it was deep enough for me to have a huge scar on the side of my head for life (she could see the bone). Whether that's life-threatening or not I don't know but it's strange how things like this happen.

Oh wow, I'm glad she found you! Yeah it's interesting how things happen that we can't explain that change our lives so drastically. I know I'll never forget that moment with my grandpa that's for sure.

Not really me but my granddad. Now when my granddad's mam was pregnant with him (and his twin) his dad ran away and left her, after they were born his mam decided she could only keep one of them, she had always wanted a girl so chose his twin, and gave my granddad away to an orphanage, he was adopted by a very old woman who knew his mother so took in my granddad so that he could still be in contact with her, but his mam wanted nothing to do with him because she knew getting to know him would just make leaving him much harder, so as much as my granddad tried to speak to her, time and time again his mother ignored him, and make excuses not to meet with him, as my granddad got older and his adopted mother had passed away, my granddad asked to move in with his mother as he had no family, no money and no home, she said no as she was very sick with cancer and didn't want him to be stuck homeless again after she had died, so then he met my nana, now between them it was basically love at first sight, my granddad told her about everything and how he had nobody and nowhere to stay so she asked her father is he could stay with them, her father, without knowing who the hell my granddad was said yes, and so let him stay with them, he was a father figure to my granddad from then on, but then, he got news that his mother was in the hospital and wasn't looking like she'd ever leave, so my granddad went to see her and knowing that this would be his last ever chance, asked her who his father was, but the cancer had gotten to her brain and she could barely speak never mind tell him that, so she died, leaving my granddad with nothing, no clue on who his father was, so at her funeral he saw his twin sister for the first time in many years, and brought up their father and how they had never knew him, but his twin told him that their mother had told her who he was and had also told her that he had also passed away, but she had given him his name, so my granddad, refusing to believe this searched and searched for everyone with his father's name, looking all across Britain, but never found him, now one time he was certain that this man was his father, so he travelled to Manchester only to find out that he had been killed out at war, so my granddad distraught, knowing he had lost his last ever chance to find his father, travelled back home to Middlesbrough, but stopped at a pub in Leeds, not wanting to head back home just yet, he sat down and ordered his drink, two of the bartenders then began talking about the 1966 world cup final and England winning it, so a man sat next to my granddad, then brought it up with him and said how it was amazing and how it would change England forever, so my granddad and this stranger then got into conversation and sat together talking for the next few hours, eventually this man asked my granddad why he was in Leeds, recognizing his different accent, so he told him that he was just passing through from Middlesbrough, the man then told him that he was also from Middlesbrough, although he hadn't been there for years, so my granddad then told him why he was passing through and the story of his father and how he was looking for him, so this man, tearing up, simply said my granddad's name, he had never told him his name or anything, he just said it, out of the blue, my granddad didn't answer, he was just confused, so this man then asked him if he was Margaret's son, this was his mother's name, so my granddad confused told him who he was and told him that he was in fact her son, so the man suddenly burst out crying and said to my granddad, "Well, you've found me son," he had finally found his father, completely by chance, it turned out that he had kept in touch with my granddad's mother and she had told him all about her children, she told him the little she knew about my granddad like his name and what he looked like but only small things like that, my granddad's mother had told his father never to come back while she was alive and had told her daughter that he had passed away, so after hearing of her passing away he decided it was time to come and find them, so he had been looking for my granddad as well. They were both trying to find eachother travelling all across England looking for eachother, yet they finally do, in a small pub, in Leeds, by chance. Now I don't know whether this is fate or what, but tell me, what are the odds that these two men would sit next to eachother in the same city in the smae pub at the exact same time, and would actually begin talking to eachother for long enough that my granddad would tell his story, I don't know how it happened but surely there must be a reason for it, surely that can't have just been complete luck?

Anyway, doubt many of you would read all that lol, sorry for it being so long but I wanted to get all the details in, thanks for reading if you did, forgot to put any paragraphs or anything in so it might be pretty awkward to read lol.

When I was in 8th Grade, my grandpa had been in the hospital for months struggling with lung cancer as well as gallstones. One afternoon my family and I were going to go out for lunch but I got this massive pain in my neck to the point where I couldn't move it at all. My parents decided we needed to stay home until the pain subsided. About an hour after we decided to stay home the phone rang and it was my grandma telling us to get to the hospital right away. This was back in the day before we had cell phones. We were able to get to the hospital and that same night my grandpa passed away. Soon after my grandpa's passing the pain in my neck went away. I feel like if that hadn't happened my family wouldn't have caught that phone call until much later and I might not have been able to say goodbye to my grandpa. It was as if I was part of something greater than myself if you happen to believe in that sort of thing.

Interesting and touching story. I'm sorry to hear about your loss however you were lucky enough to see your grandpa before he sadly passed away. A lot of people don't have the opportunity to say goodbye to their loved ones.

Thanks a lot! Yeah he's the only loved one I've ever been able to say goodbye to and I'm glad I did.
