WWE has released a preliminary Survivor Series PPV figure of 280,000 total buys. The buy total for The Rock's big return match teaming with John Cena will likely grow by the time WWE reports fourth quarter earnings result, as the preliminary total is only through the end of November.

The estimate compares to 244,000 official buys for Survivor Series 2010 and 235,000 buys for Survivor Series 2009, which nearly got Survivor Series scrapped from the PPV line-up.

Through three events in the fourth quarter, WWE has reported an average of 194,000 buys per event. The October PPVs - Vengeance and Hell in a Cell with a combined 302,000 buys - dragged down the quarterly average. Still to be accounted for is last week's TLC PPV.

The current third quarter domestic split is 56 percent, although the actual split for Survivor Series will likely come in higher. Applying the percentage to Survivor Series, the preliminary estimate would be 156,800 domestic buys.

A lot of people seem very down on this rating, but I only see positives. The show wasn't built up that great, yet still managed to see an increase over last year, and in the current climate, any increase can only be good news.

At $40 a shot that works out to over $11 million dollars, so yeah, can't see why its a problem either.

that's only prelimary figures too, once DVD sales kick in it'll be even more.

People need to be realistic when it comes to these things.

TBH I think too many obsess over PPV buys. In my book if you have 100,000 people buy your event, you're doin' pretty good.
TNA wishes they could see those numbers. And theirs have been quality lately.

Seeing as this went up from last year with virtually no build, I can't see anything but positive here.
WWE must of thought putting the Rock on it would be guaranteed instant record breaking buys.

Anyone would. That much money for one show would do wonders for TNA/iMPACT Wrestling.

TNA deserves so much more than they get but a lot of fans are too oblivious to TNA because of WWE.

TNA deserves so much more than they get but a lot of fans are too oblivious to TNA because of WWE.

A lot of people being oblivious to TNA can be blamed on the company themselves though. In the past, they constantly tried to fuck with the fans and ran the most inane angles ever (Abyss and the magic rings comes to mind). Bringing Hogan in just turned off many more of the IWC fans who hate his guts and didn't bring as many casuals in as they expected. TNA has made significant strides this year to becoming a somewhat legitimate alternative, but they have a long way to go yet.

I think over time they will slowly build a fanbase, but they have to iron out the kinks of their organization even further than they already have. Until then, the fans who want to like it but were turned off by the insanity in past years will continue to avoid it like the plague. Not saying that's right, just saying how it is.
