It was around for a (very) brief period in 2004-2005, on SmackDown (AKA gimmick central). It had a bunch of midgets in Rey Mysterio masks jumping around. It was borderline insensitive (scratch that: it WAS insensitive).

However, I barely see it mentioned these days. Was it just a figment of my imagination, or does somebody else remember this?

PS: I know you're all trying to forget that era, so sorry if I rekindled unpleasant memories... :D

I remember it from '98 with Max Moon and the like, and Jerry Lawler had a feud with them.

Can't remember it in2005 though.

I do remember the Juniors. And if it weren't for this thread they would literally have never crossed my mind again.

I don't know if we're discussing anything here or just reminiscing, but I hope WWE never doesn't attempt anything like that again and I think they see that as well. I don't recall any particular matches or gimmicks, but I remember the main reason it didn't work (and putting the tastelessness of it all aside) was because of how akwardly it stood out on the show, the way it was presented made for a jarring, bizarre shift of tone.

I'd be okay with that I guess if only they were more self aware about it but instead I got the impression WWE was kind of trying to play the Juniors division straight, almost like they expected us to take it seriously as opposed to a novelty act. Perhaps my memory is fuzzy but thats the vibe I remember getting and it was the main thing that bugged me out.

^That WAS the vibe.

As for the reason for the topic, I just wanted to make sure I hadn't dreamt up the entire thing, because I literally NEVER see it spoken off ANYWHERE - not even in "The WWE's Worst Ideas"-type lists. I mean, this is right up there with the Gobbledy Gooker and the Dungeon of Doom. And GM Hornswoggle.

Didn't hornswoggle come from junior division only?
I don't remember this Junior Division stuff luckily, but Hornswoggle came in via Finlay being his leprechaun under the ring.

Don't think Hornswoggle was involved in it, but it hardly lasted long at all. I'm pretty sure there were only 2-3 Junior matches on Smackdown before it was dropped, so no surprise of you don't remember it.

I actually saw , couple of videos on youtube , of midget wrestlers dressed like Taker , Batista e.t.c.. . i actually stop watching wrestling for probably couple of months . i was not a "mark" at that time . Its is true , they had a mini version of several wrestlers . WHy the idea failed ? who the fuck would like to see midgets wrestle . I cant swallow the hourswoggle shit , let alone watching him wrestle .

I remember this division. It was brought in by Palmer Cannon who played an authority figure working for the network. It didn't last too long at all and most of the matches were comedy segments. At the same time as the Juniors division Palmer brought in The Boogeyman which was an awesome idea unlike the juniors.

He had a couple more too that he brought in, but I can't remember. The Boogeyman was the only one that lasted a little while though.

The juniors division... lol.

I had only just forgotten about those little guys running around looking like power rangers and having the same match every week. Im surprised they didn't bring in a Juniors Championship. Little toy styrofoam belt for em and all, smelling like cabbage and biting ankles and such.
