Devon speaks on possible return to WWE

Devon appeared on Hit the Ropes with Shane Howard, Daris Brown and Demetrus Stokes. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

On his contract with TNA and possible return to WWE: "The contract is still valid up until August; this coming August of next year. The fans on Twitter, Facebook, and in general, in the streets and at the house shows, a lot of the fans wanting Bubba and myself to return to the WWE because of the history we have there and what we've done and accomplish. I guess with the state of how the WWE is going now where you see a lot guys from our era, the Attitude Era, starting to make their way back slowly but surely, and not to mention they've been wanting that for a while, in terms of tag teams.... Could there be a chance we could be back in the WWE? Absolutely. Could there be a chance we stay in TNA? Absolutely."

On those who say he may be past his prime: "I look at it this way, the only people I've heard this from are the people who sit behind computers and can be able to say what should and should not be in professional wrestling and try to call the shots. If that's the case, they would be some type of writers; some type of personality within the company. As far as I'm concerned, the matches I've been having in the singles I've been loving it, the fans have been loving it....

"Those people that are on the Internet writing what their writing, it doesn't bother me. What would bother me would be the people in the arenas. And that's what I go by.... If I lost a step, if I was grossly overweight, I can see them having a valid point. But when I'm in the ring with AJ, Samoa Joe, and Hernandez, and so forth and so on, and tearing the house down, it's hard for me to want to be able to listen to those people who are behind the keyboards who are writing this and actually believe what they are saying...."

Devon also comments on his sons doing amateur wrestling and wanting to be pro wrestlers, the female who played his wife in the storyline with The Pope, Team 3-D Academy, working in Japan, his most memorable matches, and more. The full interview can be accessed here.

I think Devon needs a return to WWE more than Ray does since Ray right now is actually doing fine in his spot and is working out as a solo act. That said I would like to see them retire in WWE as a tag team IF WWE actually pushed the tag team division more. They have the talent to do it imo and the Dudley's would be a great vet tag team to put it over and have one more nice run.

Devon could make a great Tag Team with Ezekiel Jackson. Personaly, I really like Devon in singles but he was born to be a TT Wrestler.

I would love to see them both return to WWE, but Ray has a shot of doing some great things in TNA right now.

Considering how much of a prick Ray can come off as he'd be more so perfect to be a TE training than Devon imo.

WWE has a bully campaign. They can't have a big fat guy pulling a Hardcore Holly on some TE kids just for the hell of hazing him

Don't see the appeal of Devon on his own or even Bubba on his own. Maybe one final tag team run that lasts for six months and ends with some crazy match at WM for the titles, some storyline about one final run for a veteran team. That would be the only thing I would want to see, a short run, but even with that I wouldn't be that interested.

Devon is a boring singles competitor, it's too bad he can't see that. I didn't mind the makeshift tag team he had with The Pope a few months back, though. At least it kept The Pope on TV.

I would love to see Devon coming back to the WWE but I think Bully Ray is fine where he is, the thing is though... Devon is getting a push in TNA at the moment so I don't see him returning for a while if he does decide to. I think Devon could be a great mid-card champion in the WWE, he has become a pretty tough Singles competitor so he can have some pretty good matches on Smackdown OR Raw against Ezekiel Jackson, John Morrison, Alex Riley etc. In all honesty, I would prefer watching him on Smackdown... he would fit in there more than on Raw.

Devon shouldn't be anywhere near any singles title in WWE or TNA. He just isn't that impressive as a singles wrestler and needs to be with Bully Ray if he is going to be near a title.

I doubt they will ever tag with each other again, that huge rivalry really wrecked the chances of that happening. The thing that is confusing to me is how he even got a shot at the Television title.... randomly.

I would rather not see the return of Reverend Devon or whatever he was during his short-lived solo stint in WWE.

Either Dudley returning to the WWE without the other would be pointless and would make for a very, very weak debut.

Bubba actually did well by himself years ago until he almost crippled HHH by botching a powerbomb. They could just as easily bring Spike back with him like they did with Bubba if they want a little tag run and name value

Spike is shit. And so is Devon without Bubba.

Frankly I don't see the point in bringing back any incarnation of the Dudley Boyz at this stage in WWE's tag team division because it hasn't meant fuck all in years. It's so bad that I doubt even arguably the best tag team of all time would do anything to fix that problem. Still far too many singles titles for that tag division to be successful.

I think the tag titles can thrive. I also don't think there are too many singles titles. There are actually less singles belts than years ago by far.

The division to me has three problems.

The first is that they need managers. Teams are bland and lack mic skills, but most of them work very well together in the ring, and that is seen when they get prolonged time on Superstars and NXT. A manager can hide that and get teams over, just like at the Hardys and E&C as prime examples because Terri made them. People always complain about real teams, but Otunga/Mike, Hawkins/Reks, Watson/O'Neal, the Usos, Slater/Gabriel, and so on all work perfectly well and in sync in the ring. They just lack personality and mic skills to get them over. Years ago so did the highest grossing team in thee WWEs history in the Hardys and the most decorated team in E&C but they were protected by the way Terri Runnels go the, over, sort of like how Vickie does and did for Dolph and LayCool

The second problem to me is marketing as they don't air enough videos of teams together, which is a shame. Back in the day Team Xtreme, T&A, and so on all had video packages like Desire, My Sacrifice, and so on to promote them even when they weren't working. The WWE has always had he best production values in the business and they could easily make hype videos to get people over, just look at Kong and Cara who both were fuck ups but over once the hype machine had pushed them before their debuts.

The last thing to me is that they simply need a stupid pill, R-Truth, Kendrick, Carlito, Bourne, Mercury, and so on have all been busted at times while in a tag team the E was promoting which just gives the E zero reasons to have faith in it sadly

The only way a tag team division can thrive is if there are no more than 2 singles titles. This has been proven time and time again. Consistent as gravity. Notice how even TNA's tag division declined when they added the Global title, or whatever it's called now. WWE's tag division was in it's prime when there was only the WWE Championship and the IC Championship. Same with WCW... a WCW Championship and a US Championship. Those tag team eras were never surpassed.

The more singles titles there are, the credibility of the tag division falls sharply. The more likely you are to win a title on your own, the less interesting it is to win a title with someone else.
