I'm building another PC, and here's what I've chosen for it. (it's a black and red theme if you didn't notice)

Case: Aerocool Xpredator X3 Devil Red

Power Supply: Corsair AX 860 Fully Modular 80 Plus Platinum

Storage: 2x Samsung 840 SSD's (120gb), running in RAID 0.
2TB WD Caviar Green HDD

Graphics Cards: 2x Asus HD 7870 2gb (running in Crossfire)

Processor: AMD FX-8350 (unless the 9 series comes out by then, this is the last part I'll buy)

CPU Cooling: Thermaltake Water 2.0 Extreme

Motherboard: Asus Crosshair V Formula

RAM: G-Skill RipjawsX 1866MHz 16GB

I'm hoping to get a stable 5.3GHz overclock on the CPU this time, and I certainly won't be building another PC any time soon.[/spoiler]

How much is that costing?

Around £1100, assuming I use the CPU in my current PC, and the liquid cooling. If I had to buy everything new, it'd be around £1400.

Buildin' a relatively cheap media server for streaming to get rid of TV. It's gonna run on Plex.

Got ~$500 to spend atm, will probably get more soon though.

Anyone think this processor would be decent enough for transcoding to devices like that set top box Roku and iPads?

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_346_1184&products_id=21350

Will probably have only one 1080p steaming at a time, though I would like more if possible.

Will decide everything else later, right now I want to choose the right processor so I can budget better.

why am i asking this on a wrestling forum? because computer forums suck and ignore my posts because it isn't asking for gaming build help

For a server, no, I don't think it's good enough. If your budget allows for it, you could get a Xeon E3-1220, which is a server grade chip.
Or even this is a better option for a server,
http://www.provantage.com/amd-os4226wlu6kguwof~7AAMD2N9.htm?source=googleps

Huh, had heaps of recommendation for that other CPU. I thought it'd be pretty decent considering all it'll really be doing is transcoding and streaming media files to at the most two devices at a time.

Either way, that one is surprisingly cheaper. Thanks.

Hey Solidus ... I am glad I ended up not getting a tower because my laptop just crapped out on me. lol
Anyways.. I may end up getting a new one rather than fixing it. can u make a recommendation? I want to get one through walmart because their coverage plans are cheaper than other places. I also want to stay under $500. I was looking at this one --> http://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-Refurb...essor-and-Windows-8-Operating-System/22733645 I read good things on it but as you know, I know nothing about the internals of a computer! lol

Nice find, that's a brand new APU inside that laptop, but not all that powerful.
Here are some good finds,
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AZVTBOK/?tag=wwfo-21 - i5 cpu for $460.

If you don't want to spend that much, this is the best I could find under $400,
http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-X55C-DS31-15-6-Inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B00B7K11QE/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1371165127&sr=1-3

It will perform great, but the first one I posted will be around 30% faster.

Is Acer a good brand? I never had one of those but I believe my dad has an Acer desktop that is pretty nice.
I want to get one through walmart.com though so...
What do you think about these:

http://www.walmart.com/browse/compu...kLHNShopbyPrice2Under500Dollars&search_sort=3

All of those are the ones available at walmart for under $500

I've had 3 Acer laptops, I love them. Excellent build quality, price, and warranty if you care about that.
None of those laptops from Walmart are worth it. $499 for i3, I linked you to an i5 for $460.

Does Amazon do warranties?

What is wrong with your current laptop btw? If you have issues securing and optimizing it, I will help you.
