MoviePilot.com reports that actor Liev Schreiber has been tapped to play Chris Benoit in a movie about the tragic double murder-suicide. The movie is titled Crossface and is written by Sarah Coulter.

The movie will reportedly cover Benoit’s life from the early days in his career through the final days of his life where he murdered his son and wife. Several WWE stars including Triple H and Vince McMahon will be portrayed.

Well I think this may be a good movie it's about a well known tragic event. I hope they make clear at the beggining that some elements are fictional as nobody knows why he did it. I'm more interested in most of what happens before that it'll be interesting to see who they get to play some of these well known wrestlers as I'm sure none of them will be in the movie.

*Lets keep this thread civil. I'd hope buy now we could talk about it responsibly. Flaming will not be tolerated.*

That guys management team has shot down that he's playing him.

I'd probably check this movie out just to see how it's portrayed and what not.

Liev Schreiber is bigger than Benoit was.

Why even make a movie about somebody whose is not going to get any help from friends, family, the company he worked for and anybody signing off their likeness rights for this supposed biopic.

Let Benoit die, the people who don't follow wrestling will make snap judgements about the indusrtry, wrestling fans will hate it for any protrayal of the industry, and Benoit deny-ers(if thats a word) will shit on it and say Benoit didn't do it.

Yeah, I'll check this out, but I don't have high hopes. I'm more interested in the stuff before the tragedy, but I just don't see this doing well or even being a good movie.

This is going to be so poorly done.

What I want to know is, how are they going to have rights to use wrestler's names if the WWE owns them?

How are they going to have a "Triple H" character since its under copyright? "Booker T"? "Chris Jericho?" so on and so on. Can't Titan Sports legally threaten to sue the fuck out of the film distributors if they use their intellectual properties (character names) in a money making, public distributed venture like a movie?

Just use real names or half names. Trips isn't under copyright. A blackman named booker. Chris or Chris Irvine.

Do that and you get that awful Jesse Ventura "biopic".

Yeah, it has a double murder/suicide ending, very exciting. Subject matter that studios just love funding because there is a giant target audience for it.

This shouldn't sound funny, but it is laughable anyone thinks a movie about a wrestler, one who killed his family then himself nonetheless is going to get anything more than a lowball budget and big name actors is just delusional.

I'll bet the joker they hire to play Vince will have an outrageous, huge Pompadour hair wig.

I'll bet the actors they hire to play the wrestlers will have small physiques, which I'd guess they'll film mostly "backstage" footage where they have shirts and clothes on.

If they were smart they would try and get stock footage of Benoit in the ring, and use it montage style to show the damage he would do to his own body willingly. Then you just have to film all the drama stuff.

I will watch it honestly, I have watched quite a few movies based on real life killers, and they are rather fascinating, Starkweather being my favorite.

They won't show anything in a ring type of enviroment. They'll do his coming up they'll stop when he gets anywhere that has a copyright but he'll be shown continuing to talk to people like jericho eddie (who will have been established already) etc at home (maybe backstage) not in the ring at all. It'd be stupid to try to do all of that it's not a wrestling movie (one maybe two scenes of wrestling(multiple scenes around a ring)), it's a he killed his entire family movie.

Also any film maker knows better than to use footage of the subject through out the film because it takes the viewer out of the film.

So Micks estimate of backstage stuff with wrestlers with small physiques will probably be accurate. Especially since that describes most of his closer friends.

If you are saying that his WWE kayfabed bestest buddies were Eddie, Jericho and Dean, than you leave out his neighbors Penzer and Regal, his riding partners Chavo and Tomko and one of his closest friends Johnny Grunge.

I still don't think a movie is going to do better than those bullshit E! True Hollywood, CNN specials and whatever the fuck that E60 piece was, If anyone wants to know the sordid details, they can easily just look it up online. I don't see an audience for this.

Just seems like capitalizing on tragedy, like that World Trade movie or that Flight 57(I think?). I don't see what would be an attraction to this other than there being people actually wanting to see someone use a crossface on a kid tbh.

Hollywood is famous for capitalizing on tragedy. Titanic is probably the biggest movie of all time and was based on a real tragic event. Same goes for Pearl Harbor or any war movie. There is a market for movies based on tragic events. There's a market for movies based on real life killers so wrestling part aside, if done well, I could see the movie pulling okay numbers.
