CM Punk/The Rock – a comparison

Punk is underrated among clueless marks and h8ers who don't want to give him any props, but massively overrated among smarks and fanboys.
I mean, just look at the forums ffs, every other avatar or signature is Punk. and ITT we're comparing him to The fucking Rock. Should we compare him to Hulk and Stone Cold as well?

I think comparisons to guys like Orton or Edge would be more appropriate.


Also, lol @ giving Rock shit for his catchphrases. It's a huge part of wrestling, remember Hulk Hogan, guys?.... and didn't we all love the YES! chants?

We're comparing him to Rock on ability not star power so yeah you could compare him to Austin if you wished (I possibly already have). Punk, Ambrose and Bryan have loads of chainers but so what, DZ has loads of people with his pics does that make him overrated too? Bryan does also do is he overrated?

Catchphrases are a part of wrestling admittedly but Rocks mic skills were built around them more so than any other guy.

That's why I think it's almost a shame that Punk has to be the guy that Austin has one last final match with. I like Punk, but he's not a big enough of a star to be in the ring with a guy like Stone Cold and have it be called a 'dream match.' I watched the WWE 13 promo between them that people loved, and found him (and even just the sound of his voice) so mismatched up next to Stone Cold.

Unfortunately, the only star big enough to really face Austin in a dream match would be Cena or maybe Brock. I'd still rather see those two matches than a match with Punk.

CM Punk isn't real? Lol. CM Punk is the realest wrestler on the roster (or close to it.) The Rock is the phony - a novelty actor who has no respect for the WWE aside from what he can milk from it.

Punk called DB a goatface, but didn't Rock call him an Oompa Loompa?

Real as in how they are behind the business. Sure, Rock does, hides, says his things and all..

But Phil Brooks the person who has to be one of the biggest bitches/whiners in the business. Sure I like his work and loved him back in ECW. But like deth said, he broke kayfabe too much to get his shit done for him.

Also, I think he's cocky as fuck behind the scenes. Simply because he has the belt and has reached the top.

The respect thing? Not kayfabe if you ask me. I'm pretty sure he's that guy behind the scenes as well.

He had to break Kayfabe, look at the crap angles that were given to him. He created oppertunities for himself because none were handed to him like they were handed to The Rock.

And IMO, I think you're contradicting yourself. If Phil Brooks is cocky, brash, egotistic - how is this not being real? It's him. He's being himself. Not a nice person, but that doesn't make him less real. Unlike The Rock, who claims to have come 'home' to WWE and then goes and does interviews as an 'actor' where he outright mocks WWE. CM Punk doesn't pretend.

I've heard before that CM Punk is an asshole, but I've never seen any solid proof of it. On his documentary DVD there were people who said he was a prick, but they said it with a smile as if wasn't a big deal. And it isn't, really. Having a bad personality isn't the same as being a bad person. Punk obviously has principles. He once bought his friend's house to save the guy (Joey Mercury) from bankruptcy. Sound's like a decent guy to me.
