CM Punk Documentary [spoilers]

So just finished watching it and I'm a little disappointed. I mean they did a fair bit about his beginings but when i got to him and being in WWE it seemed more like it was pushing the current storyline as opposed to talking about his experiences. I mean I know he had a rocky road getting to where he is but where are all the small stories. Like so and so and I did this or we did this to so and so. I think I heard maybe one story of him in WWE that seemed like he had a good time.

And the people the interview were a bit odd too they had his best female friend speak two three times her sister(that he considers his own) his in it quite a lot, Lita has a one liner another ex has a one liner, the dude from rancid is pretty prevalent and the rest is Hayes and Heyman. You get a one off from Cena and a couple of lines from HHH and Kofi. It just seems really random once it gets to the WWE stuff it's like nobody knew what to say or even that they'd be there to talk about punk that day.

Ill see it for myself but this is the first time I've heard a negative review so I have a hard time believing the criticism.

Trust me it's great

I can't see how anybody would be disappointed it covered his pre WWE days pretty good. Didn't know about his backyard wrestling stuff in the detail it covered which is pretty messed up of his brother to take the money they earned. Can also see why Heyman and Punk are such good friends Heyman pretty much was his life support until he quit/got fired. Punk probably would have never made it to the roster without him. Was pretty hilarious when he talked about when Vince told him he had a challenge for him and that was to turn heel and make it work and Punk said okay what's the challenge lol. Also funny how Punk did all that SES stuff and got away with stuff that I wondered all along how he got away with it. I knew he got good heat from the crowd just didn't know it was to the extent of people throwing shit at him and wanting to slap him. That's some old school heel stuff that he should be proud of.

I felt the same way he did about how mania 27 went about how it should have been Punk vs Cena. Punk at the time was the best heel going and had a feud with Cena going but ultimately it worked out. Pretty cool that Punk has truly become the leader of the locker room a guy that young wrestlers go to and Punk being a guy who tries to help others. Wondered who took over that role since guys like Taker have retired and it is good to see that it is Punk.

Think if you're a Punk fan after watching this you will be even more of a Punk fan and have at least a little more respect for him and even if you aren't exactly a fan you might at least have a little more appreciation for him considering he is a true last of a dying breed coming up in the biz from the ground up building a rep just to make into WWE and actually not just accepting whatever WWE gives him and fights for his career not being worried if cost him his career. Something that obviously not enough guys do. Documentary really lived up to my expectations.

Edit: Oh yeah and Punk paying for Mercury's house is one of the coolest things I've heard that a wrestler has ever done.

Just watched the DVD and I'm going to be a blunt, if you don't enjoy this DVD then you don't enjoy wrestling. Of course there was small things that were missing, sure every documentary has it. This was special though, the constant war with creative really interested me. I know Punk was always going at it with the higher ups about his position but I never knew it was like "alright I won, time to make the best of it before I released". That always blew my mind because in 06-07 I was out of wrestling, didn't follow it.

Major highlights for me was Indy/ROH stuff with Hero and Joe. Those matches he put on were an absolute clinic. Good to see Joe get some time, even though I would have marked the f out if we got to speak but I knew that wasn't going to happen. Still some great clips and it was crazy how good ROH was at the time.
The other major highlight was the SES stuff which couldn't have made me happier. I wanted to hear Punks actual thoughts and the fact that he loved it so much makes me happy. SES will go down as one of my personal let downs in wrestling on how it got buried. Punk was the best heel on Smackdown, even better than my all time favorite Jericho. He was on fire and to have WWE just completely dismantle it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Punk admitting to that being one of the main factors of him leaving didn't surprise me along with Miz main eventing. Miz looked so awkward looking back on it in the main event.

Overall it lived up to the hype and I rank it as high as Edge's documentary as my favorite of all time. I thought nobody was going to top Jericho's for me but man the last two have blown me away. Still obviously going to buy Punk's DVD and I'm buying a blue ray player just so I can see everything. I'm a die hard fan of the guy and proud to be for life. He earned everything with how much he worked and nobody can deny that.

The doc was damn good but i'm kinda upset they left out when he was on commentary for that short time and they didn't even touch the Mysterio feud.

It was average. I get bored of watching wrestling DVD's and hearing about all this hardship that they have supposedly been through why can't the directors just focus on the wrestling? It's a bit like one of them talent shows when the so-called 'talent' have their 15 seconds of fame to tell everyone a sad story about their life. It's quite interesting how selfish CM Punk has become throughout his career and also how childish. It appears that if he doesn't get what he wants he throws his toys out the pram. I did, however, thoroughly enjoy the discussion about his ROH days; that's wrestling. Punk thinks he is the best in the world but he isn't. Haterz gonna hate.

Pretty sure Punk said before it came out that it wasn't just a wrestling DVD but a life DVD. So if that wasn't your thing I don't get the point of you watching it. You can't make it high in wrestling without having some selfishness and thinking things aren't good enough. Austin would have still been the ring master for a while had he not said fuck this I'm doing my own thing to use an example. Had Punk not raised hell about things he wouldn't have went anywhere. Bryan said it best in that DVD there is a lot of guys who just are there to get a paycheck and are fine with going no where in their career but Punk isn't one of them. Also back the selfish thing he isn't totally selfish considering the cool stuff he has done pushing for Ryder to get pushed helping guys out in ROH, OVW with whatever advise or in the case of ROH training he helped do and such he could give them as well as being a go to vet in the back nowadays and also having a hand in guys like Rollins, Ceasro, Sara Del Rey, etc getting hired as he talked about in his latest comic con.

As PHX mentioned, Punk bought Joey Mercury's place to help him out being in the dumps. Selfish huh? Seriously some people are just complete idiots on the page but thats the internet I guess. Ryder's youtube page and getting some guys jobs also I believe that Bryan getting the briefcase was influenced by Punk a bit. Bryan was on no momentum and just randomly won. Anyway back to comments that make sense...

Couldn't agree more Fab. Wish they brought up some commentary stuff but maybe that will be on the extras so I have hope. Every documentary misses a bit of a piece. Edge's documentary sadly didn't include his comeback at the Rumble which was a let down but things happen. As for Mysterio feud, well I'm not sure why but they did put a lot of SES stuff which was awesome. Mysterio-Punk was feud of 2010 for me.

Totally agree, Mick. I was just thinking about putting the Itchin' for a Jay 'CM Punk Best in the World Documentary' episode special that comes out on October 9th right here on Wrestlingsmarks... on VHS. It would work because you could listen to it in the background while doing Pilates or running on the Treadmill... right in the comfort of your old school living room that probably has a couch cover on your couch right next to the dusty pictures of 1930's lifestyle.

I do love it when during a debate, in order to get their point across, people sink to insults. Just because someone doesn't agree with you or has an alternative opinion they become keyboard warriors. Anyway, I stand by my point that CM Punk appears to be quite selfish in this documentary. He showed that if he doesn't get what he wants he will make a fuss. I suppose people would say that's a good quality to have however, think of all them guys who had been on the roster a lot longer than Punk. He comes along and then after a few years gets an immediate push, he drops the ball not once but twice and still gets pushed. Even now Punk is beginning to become stale as WWE Champion and his character hasn't evolved past the 'straight edge' rubbish.

Yes, I thought it was pretty cool of Punk to buy Joey Mercury a house but let's be honest here I'm sure we have all bought our best friends things and just because its Punk and he's spending a six figure sum all the marks go mad. It's not about the amount that's spent.

I have no idea why Vince McMahon would have been 'bent over' by Punk since McMahon has dealt with bigger and better wrestlers in the past. I also think Punk should be more concerned about what he's doing in the ring rather than having the audacity to criticise The Miz who was actually better than Punk building up to WrestleMania 27.

Credit where credit is due though - Punk is not lethargic. Also don't forget this is a WWE DVD not a 'normal' biography type DVD where you are learning about the real person. Some of this is still keeping in kayfaybe. Still, I haven't changed my opinion of Punk, infact I think I've learnt how easily Punk is probably holding the WWE to ransom right now. Having such a long title reign may be an offshoot of the events during 2011.

Huh? What are you talking about he doesn't even use the straight-edge persona right now. No one in the company right now has changed and reinvented himself like he has. Started with the face version of straight edge character and also had a smart ass face aspect to him as he went on, then the underdog character from his ECW reign to his first WHC reign, then did the straight edge heel, then turned the straight-edge gimmick into religion brainwasher who acted like he was a evil jesus, transitioned into manipulator character with Nexus, of course became the anti WWE rebel during Summer Of Punk, toned that down to transition into a his tweener role starting to get fed up with how he starting to get overshadowed and then of course now we have the full fledged heel who will do anything to get his respect. Guy has went through about like 8 phases in his 7 year career when you have guys who go multiple years without changing a thing so not seeing how he's stale when he is forever evolving his persona.

And as far as "dropping the ball" if you watched the DVD you'd see it pretty much got admitted that they never gave him the ball. First WHC reign was a pure transition to get the belt to the HBK/Jericho feud and that his 2nd WHC title reign they had no plans for him after his feud with Taker. This isn't me bashing you but to say Punk hasn't evolved past his straight-edge character is flat out ridiculous and doesn't make any sense and doesn't seem like you understand what "having and dropping the ball" means
