Damn. A guy who I thought was talented as hell, but didn't make it for whatever reasons (not going to go into his claims that it was because of his homosexuality). Sad to see another wrestler die, especially one who seemed to be trying so hard to make a difference and make the wrestling business better for everyone in it.

He said his homosexuality claim (which was his said reason for being fired) was a publicity stunt and that he is 100% straight

Chris Kanyon was always one of my favorites. Its too bad he was practically blackballed after coming out. The Jersey Triad was a great group, much too short lived. The Positively Kanyon gimmick in his feud vs DDP was pretty damn funny. Who can forget the bump he took off of that triple cage at Slamboree 2000. He should have been a star in WWE, he was getting over prior to breaking his ACL in 2001. After that injury, it destroyed all the momentum he was building & had to start from scratch. Here's some of his matches.

I can't believe in the midst of the guy dying people really need to go to the "suicide is the easy way out" or "he wasn't man enough" shit.

Yeah agreed. Everybody has their own opinions on suicide but the man just died and the final cause of death hasn't even been confirmed yet. How about we have some respect and let him rest in peace because he obviously had no peace left in his life. I really expect that he was just fed up with being bashed due to his sexuality and he got pushed over the edge. Unless you've been in that spot then I don't see how you could say that he wasn't man enough or whatever. Let the man rest peacefully.

I read that he was bipolar and homosexual...

Yeah, shit like that is pretty stupid. A normal person doesn't want to die, you already have to be really fucked up to actually want to take your own life, whether it be a load of stress that you just can't handle or just feeling lonely and insignificant. Not sure if 'normal' is the right word to use but what I am trying to say is, people with the right mindset don't do that shit. I was just surprised with a pretty big problem this morning and I'm not going to commit suicide over it. There are other alternatives, at least, but it was still a fucking lame thing to happen and will cause more worrying but whatever, I don't have the mindframe to kill myself to escape it or anything. I just need to find work...like, NOW.

Unless you have the mind of a suicidal person, it's hard to understand why people take that path. I know the main thing is because people can't handle their problems but there are always other options to fix the problems yet people still resort to suicide....you need to have a pretty messed up head to actually kill yourself.

I agree, that's an immature perspective obviously from people who know nothing of bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder aka manic depression is a psychological disorder where your moods shift incredibly easy, extreme depression & extreme mania. Feelings of suicide are a part of it as is extreme depression or mania that takes over your life. His brain was telling him to commit suicide, probably after not being on medication for it, and he only complied with what his body was telling him to do. People with Bipolar disorder tend to commit suicide a lot more than people without it. Calling someone a pussy for having problems with their brain is like making fun of someone in a wheelchair or pointing & laughing at an amputee.

"I felt like Kanyon had the potential to be among the best workers in the business. I once heard a great Tony Schiavone call, something along the lines of "he's the best in the business, and he's going to destroy this kid." It didn't seem like wrestling hyperbole to me either - more a genuine reaction to watching one of the best at the top of his game. I enjoyed watching him in the ring, wondering what new gem he might debut that would be stolen overnight and given new life with another company. I last saw Chris at Wrestlemania in 2004. I may have seen him once since then. He looked good, but talked about packing it in, calling it a career. I never knew of his struggles; the bipolar disorder, the pressure of keeping his sexuality secret for so many years. I had a small mention about Kanyon in my upcoming book. A few weeks ago, in my agents office, I asked if I could tweak the story just a little to make sure it didn't come off as mean. Now, I'll have to lose it altogether. I wish he was still in the book. I wish he was still with us in this great big dysfunctional wrestling family. I wish him well in his next great adventure. Kanyon unfortunately, was a guy who gave a lot more to wrestling than wrestling ever gave him back."
- Mick Foley's Blog on Myspace

Tony Schiavone is underrated. On Nitros the man did the exact same hyperbole that WWE announcers currently do. I think he did a superior job to any announcing currently going on in WWE, until JR's return.

Why? He wasn't man enough and it's a damn shame he died. I feel for his loved ones, I even paid respects to the man. But life is what you make of it, for better or worse, and there are people who have it alot worse and don't grease themselves. It's not like he was murdered or died of natural causes, he choose to die because he didn't have the gaul to face life, and that's sad.

I'm now working in a hospital that overseas troops coming back home with debilitating, life altering issues, enough to actually give them a reason to want to give up, but they don't, they press on and try to make the most of their life, they appreciate and love life. As much disdain and distaste that you have for people who share the feelings I share on suicide, I too have the same feelings for people who try and celebrate the life of someone who didn't have the decency to celebrate their own life, instead chose cowardice to define their life. I'm sad he died. I'm not demeaning him, just stating he didn't have the heart to face what he was dealt, and that doesn't warrant a celebration of his life, it warrants pity, but not for his death, for the decision he made. RIP Chris, may things be easier for you.
