The problem in Australia is that uni is payed for by the government and currently there are no caps on how many students can be in a degree each year

It basically forces people to do a) Extracurricular stuff and/or b) Do postgraduate study to stand out from the crowd

Although it is still better than having to pay for your degree upfront like in America
