Villa is their plan b, and he works, but the fix is simple imo. Their wingers are poor. Pedro is diabolical now, and Alexis has lost all confidence. It's no coincidence that when he was at his best, they went to Madrid's backyard and dominated. As I said, this formation thrives on good wingers, and they have none.

Pedro - Crap now
Alexis - Lost it, it seems.
Villa - Never was a winger, and had to play there.

They also need to fix their set play weaknesses. They are SO bad there - one of the worst in Europe.

Villa and Alexis were both guys who were fantastic for previous clubs and have been average at Barca. I'd have to blame the formation in some ways. Yeah, they're underperforming, but is it due to the fact they can't play their roles as well as they could because crossing is effectively eliminated?

Agreed that Villa is never a striker though, probably not fair to use him as an example there.

Presume you mean "never a winger". He was a prolific striker for both Valencia and Spain, and even has a decent goal scoring record at Barca, but he is not a winger. It's not the lack of crossing, because Alexis had an awesome first season. At times, he was as threatening as Messi. He single handedly dominated Madrid at the Bernabau. It's just he is out of form. He misses the most simple of chances.

God dammit you're an SPL mark. Crossing isn't everything in football lmao. Man City hardly ever cross, and they were incredibly successful in the BPL last season with their playing style. Barcelona are THE best team bar none at attacking through the middle. They just require a few better players now imo.

Yeah I meant winger lol.

Even just the threat of a cross works for me. It forces the full backs to push wider to close the wingers which leaves more room in the centre. Works perfectly for me. And that's obviously pish, like an SPL would ever pass their way to a decent wide position - hoofing it straight to the strikers FTW -.-

They threat crosses all the time, but go back to the center to their mediocre midfield of Iniesta, Xavi, and Fabregas...

The amount of time Dani Alves gets in crossing space is awesome, but why cross to Messi when you can pass to him instead?

It appears this thread already exists!

I was extremely impressed with Real Madrid during last night's 3-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund. Madrid really got their revenge on Dortmund from last years semi-final first leg where Dortmund were victorious 4-0. I really think there is no way back for Jurgen Klopp's men, they simply aren't the team that they were in last years competition mentally.

I only watched the highlights of the PSG and Chelsea game. My assessment is that a combination of mistakes by Chelsea and a decent performance by PSG led us to the 3-1 result. If Chelsea turned up with the correct mind-set then the result could have been very different, although they did manage to pick up an away goal which could prove vital in the second leg next Tuesday.

I can't really call it "revenge" considering they weren't the team they were last year both mentally and literally. I would just simply call it as making amends for the shit Madrid went through last year. As for La Decima? We do have a good shot considering Khedira is coming back but losing Jese is pretty big considering he was our wild card. I still consider Munich as the favorites until they are knocked off their perch.

I guess it all depends on our definition of revenge mate. I do agree that Madrid have a strong chance in this years competition but I have thought this about them every year for the past 3/4 years and they seem to falter when the semi-finals arrive.
