And also, Cena didn't say it on air during a show which was my main problem with the IC and US title guys. Really have no problem with what he said, I just doubt much really changes.
JBL won't wait that long and you know it. This screams shoot cowboy

Belt don't make stars, the stars make the belt.

Simple as that.

Look to WWE's own tag team division right now to see how revitalizing a championship division works. It's still not quite there yet because while the teams are set to go the titles are caught up in the main event faff, but the building blocks have all been carefully laid by now. As soon the "proper" teams get to fight over the titles and get some real angles to work with then everything will be golden.

The key is in having an active division full of challengers eyeing the prize, but at the same time if no one thinks to bring up basic things like WHY they want to hold a particular title then there's little reason for me to care when they get it. And if you want a good example of what not to do look at the U.S. Title. I know Dean's defended the title a couple of times since winning it early in the year but I can't even remember who he faced. Dean barely acknowledges the title he holds, no one cares he has it, no one seems to fucking want it.

Here's hoping you have a good title run, John. But once the title's not in the spotlight with you anymore, will it still be awesome? Why, because you held it? C'mon.

what mitb has taught us about anyone outside Edge (who also wasn't that big but certainly bigger than the rest outside RVD)

Same could be said for the IC title. In fact I would outright say the World Title has basically been devalued to what the IC title once was, the us a step down to euro level, and the IC jobber status like a lhw or hardcore belt.

Pretty much agree with every part of Defiant's post which is what I was saying. It's going to be about the focus and storylines not so much who he is holding the title. WWE seem to finally get that point with the tag titles which is why the Rhodes winning the tag titles came off like a big deal cause it had a purpose and story to it to make you care. Same has to happen with the WHC and not just rely on the fact that Cena has it.

Rrrrrrright and the guy riding on the nostalgia bus has nothing to do with Rhodes Dynasty's surge up the card.

You can have great storylines for anyone, but if the audience doesn't buy it, it doesn't matter. I enjoyed Jack Swagger's title run, thought he had some pretty memorable moments with Big Show, and I learned his dad was Bunkhouse Buck, doesn't mean that title made him a maineventer.
