Title prestige is a funny thing. We are all aware of who the title holders are and of the amount of time that regularly gets devoted to it.
But, if I'm just a guy who watches WWE every now and again when it's convenient, there are a few guys from the last few years I know. I probably know Orton and Punk. I might know Daniel Bryan and RVD. I definitely know John Cena. For the common casual WWE fan, John Cena's going after a belt that used to be contested when I was a kid by guys like Ric Flair and Sting and Hulk Hogan and Goldberg called the "World Heavyweight Championship". That makes it important to me.
That means it gets prestige from the "casuals". Just because we don't think it's prestigious means little in the grand scheme of things.
