According to county records, an arrest warrant was filed on July 28 and Wheeler pled not guilty through a lawyer on August 3. He was then arrested by the Orlando Police Department this morning. A hearing has been scheduled for later today.

Further information regarding the incident that led to the charge is not currently available.

AEW issued a statement in response to the news.

"AEW has been made aware of the charge, and we are closely monitoring the situation. (Wheeler) is fully cooperating with local authorities,” the company stated to the Orlando Sentinel.

According to Hanlon Law, the maximum penalty for the charge in Florida is five years in prison or five years probation, plus a $5000 fine. The firm notes that even first-time offenders can face jail time for the offense.

Florida has some weird laws going on. Warrant on July 28th? I assume he was out of state and they didn't see it as big enough deal to have another agency process the booking? He pleads not guilty on August 3rd, Orlando is just like take your time, we'll book you and set up an arraignment eventually. Then today instead of letting him turn himself in, which by the rest of this he should have known was coming since he alread plead not guilty. Today they arrest him? Unless it's purely on the basis of flight risk cause someone figured out his upcoming schedule.

I don't understand either how you can be "wanted" if you already plead not guilty and have a court date

It’s okay if he can’t make it to London.
He can come across the English Channel on a dinghy and the authorities and the government won’t give a shit.

Yeah he should have ceased having a warrant when he plead I would think. I think it's soley they're claiming flight risk.

I know way too little about the law anyways to comment further but yeah, I don't get it beyond that. just weird to not let people turn themselves in.

The other weird thing is he's plead not guilty and this is not a trial what is it? I assume he's already posted his bail. Or if he hasn't then again why wasn't he turning himself in? guess we find out at 1pm est

This happened several weeks ago. BEST case scenario he lied to AEW about this never happening so he'd still get on TV. (Though I don't see how lying about ongoing criminal proceedings doesn't get him fired from a national wrestling company, see the Enzo precedent)

Worst case AEW knew and just let him keep building a match that can't happen now

Truly a weird situation going on for sure but literally the worst time for this to happen for AEW and Cash himself. I hope we get more knowledge of what happened that led us to this point.
