Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Trailer and Analysis
By Mike Nelson | May 1, 2012 Courtesy of Gamespy

Here's your first look at the new futuristic direction of the Call of Duty series that's full of explosions and... horses?

No, this isn't a trailer announcing a spin-off of Black Ops Entertainment you silly goose. Within this very story is the first reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. So watch the trailer embedded above and then join us for a dissection (and discussion) of what is revealed in the new Black Ops 2 trailer.

Looks like Frank Woods survived that grenade blast afterall.

So what can we take away from this other than it taking place in the year 2025? For starters it looks like Frank Woods survived his brush with death in Call of Duty: Black Ops. Granted it looks like he'll be nothing more than an old man in Black Ops 2 (unless there's some type of flashback level), but it makes me happy to know that he didn't meet an untimely death in Black Ops afterall.

blackops02.jpg

WTF? Horses? Okay... but can they explode?

Yes, there will be horse riding at some point in Black Ops 2. My first thought was that maybe the player needs to go on horseback because of some type of, super EMP attack, but then I saw what looks like a Mi-24 Hind flying overhead. So does that mean this level takes place in the past? Me thinks so.

blackops03.jpg

In the future, aircraft can hover, and turn on a dime.

So someone thought it would be a good idea to mix together a Harrier Jump Jet and an F-22 to come up with this super-awesome looking hover-jet...

blackops05.jpg

Jets! Missiles! Explosions!

... and judging by this scene from earlier in the video, it looks like we can fly these planes around. But how linear will the flying be?

blackops04.jpg

Piloting drones and squad commands? Looks that way.

So not only does it look like we get to fly jets, but drone piloting looks like a real possibility as well. But what's this I spy in the lower left of the screen? "Tap LB Squad Follow" and "Hold LB All Follow." Sure, it's some gameplay footage from the Xbox 360 version, but this means there will be some form of squad control. Seems like Black Ops 2 will be taking a couple of pages from Mr. Clancy.

So what are some of the interesting things you noticed in the trailer? Are you excited for this new entry in the series? What do you hope the PC version brings to the table? Feel free to sound off in the comments below.

It looks really bad. So it's got robots, it's in the future, random western stuff, and nothing to do with the first Black Ops at all? I'm going to pass.

I only play treyarch's games for Nazi Zombies... If its got that I'll get it.

And its not like any of the COD campaigns make all that much sense anyway.

Usually true, but this looks like an all time worst for them.

what in the blue hell is going on here? it's literally as if they wrote some themes on a pair of dice, and made a game out of what was rolled.

to their credit, at least it looks different from all the other war games out there.

Just like all good franchises they have to screw themselves at one time or another, I mean if they can make it mesh... cool, but they already make so much money on games they hardly change... so who knows!
