NXT - August 5, 2020

The road to NXT TakeOver XXX on August 22 is underway, and it could not come any sooner for the reigning and defending NXT Champion Finn Bálor. After weeks of attacks and championship theft by members of the Undisputed Era, “the Prince” puts the title up for grabs against Roderick Strong. With many keen eyes on the match, who knew what would happen when “the Master of the Backbreaker” looked to capture the title that had eluded him for years.

The previous sins of “the Archer of Infamy” had come back to bite him, as he was deceived last week by the new and invigorated Dijakovic. “The Demolition Man” came up short against Karrion Kross last week, but would turn on the very man who manipulated him for weeks just a few months ago. Now Damian Priest had his chance at redemption, with “the Herald of Doomsday” sure to be watching and stalking his enemy.

The NXT Women’s Champion searches for competition less than three weeks away from NXT TakeOver XXX. Following her victory against Xia Li, the patience of “the Joshi Judas” was sure to be tested as a new challenger emerges to state their case to a future title opportunity. Who would step up to issue the challenge to “the Genius of the Sky?”

PLUS…title action sees two other NXT championships on the line, when Santos Escobar defends the NXT Cruiserweight Championship against Jake Atlas, who continues to try and stand up for the NXT Cruiserweight Division…Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch receive one more opportunity at the NXT Tag Team Championships, and if Ever-Rise got themselves disqualified or counted out they would lose the gold…Vexed by the betrayal, Aliyah makes the biggest challenge of her young career against Robert Stone’s newest accomplice Mercedes Martinez.

Two weeks remaining until NXT TakeOver XXX, after the savage attack of the NXT Champion by the returning Adam Cole last week, “the Panama City Playboy” teases making a declaration to Finn Bálor - the man who ended his 406-day reign as NXT Champion back at the Great American Bash. What would the leader of the Undisputed Era have to say in his first appearance in a month?

While the NXT Women’s Championship match had been made official for the big event one week from Saturday, Dakota Kai had been issued the challenge by Rhea Ripley. Wanting revenge for an upset loss caused at the Great American Bash, the woman who held the NXT crown into a disappointing loss at WrestleMania against Charlotte Flair had made her desires known. She wanted the opportunity to face Io Shirai - but could she get the job done and make the upcoming bout a Triple Threat match?

With the return of Damian Priest from the fireball fate he received at the hands of Karrion Kross, “the Archer of Infamy” rallies on to NXT TakeOver XXX to meet “the Herald of Doomsday”. Who knew what might happen when the two butted heads in a face to face confrontation?

On the same night as a special 'Prime Target' feature on the rivalry between the two headliners, "the Prince" teams up with the NXT North American Champion Keith Lee to battle "the Panama City Playboy's" teammates in the Undisputed Era - Roderick Strong, Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly. Will the two champions succeed in cleaning house of the UE, or will Finn live to regret just days from his toughest match to date?

The NXT Women's Championship will be on the line at NXT TakeOver XXX, when Io Shirai defends her crown against both Rhea Ripley and Dakota Kai.
