It's not being handled the way it should be handled, that's certain, but I think people are being impatient, sometimes sloowwwww build pays off and in this case, it really needs to.
I think I'm guilty of the same thing a lot of other people are too, and that is over thinking the angles. It's gotten to the point over the last few years that a lot of us have been able to predict what is going to happen before it does, and then I get no satisfaction out of being right, or wrong for that matter. I know I have spent way too much time analyzing this angle, and it isn't going where I've expected it to. The fact I don't know makes me excited about what has the WWE is doing but I don't ant to get my hopes up too high.
People claim they want slow, build up feuds, but this is just a proof they are lying, they in reality want to see the feuds last 4 weeks or less. Yes, you don't know where they are going with the Bret Hart deal, they could easily book Bret vs Vince and make the build up of Bret trying to get ready for the match. They could easily book the tag match Bret/Cena vs Batista/Vince, or they could easily book Cena vs Batista with those two on the corners.
Bottom line is, we shouldnt know where they are going just yet, if we are into 4 weeks into the build up for Mania and we sill dont know, then complain, but not now
Guilty of impatience, yeah. After all this time I've just gotten used to it. But I think it also has to do with the fact I can't imagine any of those matches being good. The Bret Hart I have in my head was still great in the ring and I want to hold on to those memories. I don't think any story line they can come up with involving him actually wrestling is going to do justice to that. I'm really hoping I'm wrong about this, and they manage to pull off something that is really memorable and doesn't taint those memories.
Disagree.
I think a lot of kids who watch wrestling know who Bret Hart is. It's not like he was some name that just fought for a bit and fucked off. He was a big name in wrestling. I'm sure kids have heard his name come up before or have seen his old matches. Even if they aren't fans, I don't think they are oblivious to who he is, even if they just know the name and nothing else.
Okay. But do you believe that Bret was brought back at this point for the younger fans benefit? I don't think so. He was brought back because a lot of the older fans remember him and they are banking on the unfinished business left over from Montreal. While the kids may know about it, they aren't as interested in the angle because it is targeted towards fans that experienced it.
You can't blame the Hart name. Dynasty are where they are for other reasons. It's not like they need to be pushed just because they carry the Hart name. Not too many people give a fuck about Dynasty simply because they aren't that great. If they made Dynasty face and gave them good feuds for an initial push, since being heel doesn't really seem to be going well for them, people would care. That's why people care about DiBiase and Rhodes. IMO, they are getting used way better than Dynasty and they are getting better exposure. People care if DiBiase and Rhodes fight/fall apart. No one cares what happens to Dynasty. It has nothing to do with people not caring about the Hart name.
Also true. But I think they recreated Dynasty in the footsteps of the Foundation and tried to bank on the fact that the Hart name would sell, and it didn't.
How is it not an angle? Bret came back, tried to make up with everyone, Vince still goes on about Bret 'deserving' to be screwed. The angle is that Vince wont let it go and is proud of what he did. Vince digs it in and being screwed was a very personal thing for Bret. I'm sure you'd be legit pissed if your enemy as rubbing something like that in. That's the whole point. Build up the rivalry by shoving it in the guy's face, building up hopes for some revenge.
It's more of a segment. The whole rivalry between the two of them would have been good if it had been able to be carried out like Austin/McMahon. Not exactly of course. But it's years too late to have been included as a Wrestlemania type storyline in my opinion. Fans wanted to see Bret vs McMahon and the way this works is it is going to be them feuding with other people standing in. Basically, they missed the boat on when this could have been an amazing story line, and now are going to end up with a shadow of would it could have been. In my opinion.
So you go on about how this generation 'doesn't know who Bret is' yet you talk about how Trump has a name people still know? Wow, I had no idea kids would know Trump over Bret.
Trump = Rich guy with the bad hair. He has been involved with the WWE in the last few years to some extent more than Bret Hart has. He was still on tv and in the public eye more than Bret was. Not saying he made a splash in the WWE that was especially memorable, but he has been involved to a degree while Bret just walked back into it after over a decade absence.
I wouldn't think it would be far fetched to think this whole farewell shit is just BS anyways and Bret will 'surprise' people by showing up at WM. He signed a contract until after WM. Unless that contract had has some kind of revisions we don't know about, Bret will be at WM. Otherwise, they simply would have done what you suggested and had him apologise while he was hosting and never show up again.
Exactly. We don't know. It could be great. It could be terrible. He could be gone next week like they are saying. He could have legitimately injured himself and not be involved at WM at all. He could show back up and pull of something incredible. The fact that we know about the contracts now is just another details to consider. It may mean something, it may not. Have to wait and see I guess.
