looks like I misremembered - he lived in London and that's where he got popular, but he is indeed American!

so I guess technically, Jimi Hendrix Experience is indeed a UK band, as every other member but him were British and their records were recorded in the UK. I think that would have counted regardless. It came up when I searched UK bands too. so I guess : Jimi Hendrix is american. Jimi Hendrix Experience is a British band
