It should be noted that a lot of musicians generally don’t their own music. That’s how studios typically make their money is they front of the cash to get an artist music out in the world, but then they own it. And selling off the discography happens quite a lot.

Fun fact, Michael Jackson at one point actually owned Eminem’s music after buying this catalog.

The music industry is a very interesting place where people can just re-record their music though so good for Taylor being able to get a piece of pie back.

I believe if she didn’t write or co write every single song she’s ever done, she probably wouldn’t even really care. Surely when she helped the label she was originally with get off the ground, and become what it is today.

But yeah with every song being something personal to her, I’m glad her current label is letting her own these. I mean, when you have arguably probably the biggest pop star in the world today on your label, you’re definitely going to give her something she ask for like that. I believe it’s not even just these, like anything she puts out with them she owns if I remember correctly.

Yeah, I can see her point of view on that. And I’m happy for her to be able to own her music now though I will say for her new label there’s zero risk for them because she’s already established a Brand and already recorded the music so there’s no real net negative for them to just letting her own it. Where as the original studio would’ve put in their money, time and effort building around her and putting her music out and all that stuff. So I can kind of see both sides of this issue.
