If you’re looking for more modern folk, the most recent boygenius album is great.

Taylor Swift’s albums “folklore” and “evermore” are great too. I love all of her stuff but I kind of wish she would’ve stuck with more folky albums.

The growling is more of an instrument of its own that matches the vibe, and the ''just sounds like noise'' thing is mostly because you have probably never picked up a guitar or drum kit in your life ( respectfully). the best way I have always described it : its just angry classical

Caamp, Father John Misty, Mt. Joy, Lord Huron, Band of Horses, The Shins, Fruit Bats. Mostly newer indie folk is what's really in my wheelhouse. But folk is also incorporated into much of the music I listen to, both modern and classic. Love shit like Horse With No Name, lots of John Denver and James Taylor, etc.
