I would love to know who are the best heels of all time in your opinion. Most of you know your stuff and have been watching for a long time. When you look at heels that have been on such a hot streak on top, their aren't many on the CM Punk level. Other than Ric Flair, Randy Savage, and Vince McMahon are there any heels that you've seen cut such great promos and be such a great heel? Edge is another guy I can see up there but other than that I really can't think of anyone.

Help me out there instead of just hating on Punk. The guy is a mega star and is becoming one of the greatest of all time. What heels would you put up there with the greatest of all time.

I will make serious points about heel history, if you don't describe CM Punk as a megastar, because he isn't.

Rick Rude, Mr. perfect, Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff were all terrific heels due to their arrogance and smug opinion of the audience.... Bobby "the Brain" Heenan was amazing as both a heel manager and I'd say even better as a heel broadcaster... Currently Randy Orton has always worked very well as a heel and I've never enjoyed anything of his as a face. In the attitude era guys switched back and forth so damn much that nobody really stood out as primarily a Heel (maybe Kane or Mankind??)....

Depends.

I'm not way too familiar with old school wrestling, WWE is a very old company and the older wrestlers were way before my time anyway....I began watching when the "Attitude era" was at it's peak, with some glimpses into WWE's history, not detailed enough to make informed judgements. But in the modern era, i.e late 90's-after 2000, some of the heels that really made an impression (to me, from my completely subjective standpoint, were Evolution, The Corporation, The Power Trip, Eddie Guerrero; specifically the Guerrero that flipped on Mysterio and...Chris Jericho.)

Honorable mentions go to John Cena and Randy Orton. Orton by himself is just not as memorable as Orton with Evolution. (Yeah....he can shave his head, get more tattoos, try to grow a beard...attach a pseudo SCSA nickname...it's just not the same. Merely after thoughts in comparison to the other names on the list.)

And yes, I did say 90's-post 2000, just to clarify so that purists don't go berserk on me.

I like CM Punk, but come on, Jericho and Guerrero own him in multiple ways. I still get goosebumps when I remember the time Jericho turned heel on Michaels in....08' was it? Wow.

Chris Jericho said:
"You wanna lie to me, this is all your fault...this is all your fault. The worst, is YET TO COME."

Andre the Giant

Brock Lesnar
Roddy Piper
The Rock
Nikoli Volkov
JBL

Just to name a few of my fav's.

The only wrestler of the modern era I would consider a "great heel" is Brock Lesnar tbh. He was the last guy that really got legit heat the old fashioned way and was disliked just for what he did in the ring. That kind of thing doesn't exist anymore. Too many people like wrestlers just because they go against the grain of the family-friendly aura WWE projects with it's babyfaces. Edge is a clear-cut example. The guy was never a "great heel" by any means because too many people cheered for him and they only did it because he feuded with Cena. They also made him entirely too "cool" and it was too easy to take his side.

Lesnar did it the right way though. He completely dominated and buried people like The Rock and The Undertaker, people that fans had cheered for their whole lives, so he wasn't somebody you wanted to cheer for. The heels today flip flop back and forth between heel and face so goddamed much I can't even tell when they make the swerve most of the time, particularly people like Randy Orton and CM Punk.

JBL was another notable recent example, but he relied on cheep heat a LOT. That doesn't mean I didn't find him to be a great heel, just that he was more of a one-trick pony. If he had stopped talking, I doubt anyone would have cared about him enough to hate him considering no one did care about him the rest of his career before that run. Great promo guy though.

The other guys I listed are just obvious because they're the guys everyone tries to emulate these days anyways.

Oh yeah. Completely forgot Brock Lesnar.

Didn't the crowd turn on Rock when Lesnar won the title once in 2002 despite the fact that Rock was supposed to be the baby face anyway?

Mainly because stupid rasslin fans thought their Rocky was turning his back on them for Hollywood. Same shit people have been crying about ever since, and lol @ them for thinking Lesnar was going to be the loyalist who wouldn't go anywhere.

The best heel was the one guy who brought it mainstream first. Gorgeous George. The next best one was the guy who had heat from everyone for the majority of his career. Vince McMahon.

I am a Sucka for Austin's heel run in 2001, but lets be honest Flair was born to be a heel.

Owen Hart in either his Slammy winner gimmick or circa 1997 after he broke Austin's neck.

Obvious mention of Jake Roberts during the Savage feud too.
